PowerBar


PowerBar, Inc. is an American maker of energy bars and other related products (particularly sports drinks, gel-based foodstuffs for distance athletes, and the Pria bars targeted at women.

The PowerBar company was founded by Brian Maxwell, a Canadian athlete and entrepreneur and Mike McCollum, in his kitchen with Maxwell's girlfriend, Jennifer Biddulph, a nutritionist who later became his wife. They used $55,000 in cash to launch the company in 1986 in Berkeley, California. This was the first "energy bar" for use by endurance athletes, such as ultra marathoners, jiu jitsu practitioners and cyclists, while competing. He eventually acquired a headquarters building in downtown Berkeley.

The company eventually earned $150 million in sales before being purchased by Nestlé in 2000 for $375 million.

In February 2007, PowerBar moved its headquarters from Berkeley, California to the Nestlé headquarters in Glendale, California. With the move came the hiring of an entirely new marketing team.

On February 3, 2014, Post Holdings announced it has reached an agreement to acquire PowerBar, Musashi and related worldwide assets from Nestlé.

Purina ONE is a brand of premium dog and cat food made by Nestlé Purina PetCare. Purina ONE foods typically contain some type of meat as their first named ingredient, while still containing by-products, grain fragments (such as brewers rice and corn gluten meal), and whole corn.

The brand was introduced in 1986 as Ralston Purina's first super-premium pet food. Products under the Purina ONE brand include Purina ONE Natural Blends, which use natural ingredients and were the first line of natural pet foods to have broad natural distribution in grocery and retail stores.

Ralston Purina Company was a St. Louis, Missouri-based American animal feed and pet food company. On December 12, 2001, it merged with Swiss food-giant Nestlé's Friskies division to form Nestlé Purina PetCare Company.

Ralston Purina (originally Ralston-Purina) traces its roots to 1894, when founder William H. Danforth established the animal feed company Purina Mills. Its predominant brand for each animal was generally referred to as "Chow"; hence "Purina Horse Chow", "Purina Dog Chow", "Purina Cat Chow", "Purina Rabbit Chow", "Purina Pig Chow", and even "Purina Monkey Chow". Later, the company began producing cereal, which received endorsement by Webster Edgerly, founder of Ralstonism, to market Ralston breakfast cereals. Edgerly was at the time promoting the consumption of whole-grain cereal. These cereals became so successful that the name of the enterprise was changed in 1902 to the Ralston-Purina Company.

In 1986, Ralston Purina sold Purina Mills, its US animal feed business, to British Petroleum. Purina Mills is now owned by Land O'Lakes. In 1994, the Ralston "human food" operations of the Ralston Purina Company were spun off into a new company called Ralcorp Holdings. In 1998, Ralston Purina spun off its international animal feed business as Agribrands which was acquired by Cargill in 2001. The animal feed businesses continue to use the Purina and Chow brands which Purina Mills and Cargill license for use in the US and internationally, respectively.

Ralston Purina became the subject of an acquisition bid by Swiss-based Nestlé, whose Friskies brand was the other leading US brand of pet food. Nestlé S.A. and Ralston Purina announced in January 2001 a definitive merger agreement. Under the agreement, Nestlé acquired all of Ralston Purina's (NYSE: RAL) outstanding shares for US$33.50 per share in cash. The offer represented a premium of 36% over the closing price on Friday, January 12, 2001. The transaction had an enterprise value of US$10.3 billion ($10.0 billion equity plus $1.2 billion of net debt, minus $0.9 billion of financial investments).

Redskins (confectionery)


Redskins are a raspberry-flavoured chewy confectionery manufactured in New Zealand by Nestlé under their Allen's brand.

The confectionery is sold as elongated bars which are individually twist-wrapped in paper, weighing approximately 10 grams each. Multi-packs and Redskin lollipops are also available.

In 1996, a complaint was made to the New Zealand Advertising Standards Complaints Board about a Redskins advertisement aired on New Zealand television. The advertisement featured comedian Mark Wright dressed in American Indian clothing and assuming an accent. A mock drumbeat featured on the soundtrack. Despite protest from Nestlé New Zealand that the advertisement was inoffensive, the Board upheld the complaint.

Redskin packaging formerly featured a photo of a Native American wearing a traditional headdress. This was replaced in the late 1990s by a more neutral red character.

Reduced cream


Reduced cream is a dairy product sold in New Zealand by Nestlé. It is claimed to contain "38% less fat than thickened cream".

It is sold in cans and does not require refrigeration.

Reduced cream is used to make "The Original Kiwi Dip", which uses it instead of sour cream in the recipe for French onion dip, along with Maggi-brand instant onion soup (another Nestlé brand). The recipe was invented by Rosemary Dempsey during the early 1960s at Nestlé's newly established test kitchen.

Rolo

Rolo (pronounced /ˈrəʊləʊ/), referring to the roll-styled candy) is a brand of truncated-cone-shaped or frustum-shaped chocolates with a caramel centre, the shape resembling that of a shallow inverted bucket or tub or a traditional lampshade. First manufactured in the UK by Mackintosh's in 1937, they are made by Nestlé, except in the United States where production has been licensed by The Hershey Company.

The Rolo product was developed in England by Mackintosh's, (later Rowntree-Mackintosh), simply a combination of Mackintosh's Toffee and a chocolate coating. Rolo was first sold in 1937.

They were also produced in Norwich until 1994, when all UK production moved to Fawdon in Tyneside, by Nestlé. There have now been Rolo biscuits, ice-cream, muffins, birthday cake, desserts, cake bars, doughnuts, mini Rolos, big Rolos, (all of which use the same type of caramel) yogurts and Easter eggs made. In May 2011, McDonald's combined chocolate pieces and caramel sauce with their soft-serve McFlurry product to simulate the Rolo flavour profile in a cross-branded product.

Initially the New England Confectionery Company acquired a license to produce Rolos in the United States. However, they have been produced in the U.S. by The Hershey Company since 1969. Initially, the U.S. wrappers from Hershey indicated that the confectionery had been produced in England.

Rolo was advertised for many years with the slogan "Do you love anyone enough to give them your last Rolo?". In 1996 the Rolo ad "Elephant" won the Grand Prix in the section Film Lions at the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival. This ad was produced by Ammirati Puris Lintas, which now belongs to Lowe Worldwide. In this ad an elephant gets fooled by a young boy and decades later takes revenge, referring to the saying elephants never forget.

S.Pellegrino is an Italian brand of mineral water and assorted real-fruit sodas, owned by the company Sanpellegrino S.p.A., whose production plant is located in San Pellegrino Terme in the Province of Bergamo, Lombardy, Italy. Sanpellegrino S.p.A. has been part of Nestlé since 1997 and its products are exported to most countries in Europe, the Americas, Australasia and the Middle East, as well as Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong.

S.Pellegrino has ten production sites in Italy including at its headquarters. Furthermore, more than 1,850 people work in the company. It also manages other brands like Vera, Levissima and Acqua Panna, and its revenue, according to the balance sheet of the year 2016, amounts to 895 million euros, about 96 million euros less than the previous year. 50,000 bottles of water are produced every hour in the San Pellegrino's plant, for a total amount of one million bottles a day including soft drinks, sparkling water and cocktails. The bottles are then sorted to be imported in major countries around the world.

In 2005, five hundred million bottles were sold globally. In 2017, that number had increased to one billion bottles.

San Pellegrino mineral water is produced in San Pellegrino Terme. The water may originate from a layer of rock 400 metres (1,300 ft) below the surface, where it is mineralized from contact with limestone and volcanic rocks. It emerges from three deep springs at a temperature of about 22 °C (72 °F). The springs are located at the foot of a dolomite mountain wall which favours the formation and replenishment of a mineral water basin. The water then seeps to depths of over 700 m (2,300 ft) and flows underground to a distant aquifer.

Shredded wheat


Shredded wheat is a breakfast cereal made from whole wheat formed into pillow-like biscuits. It is commonly available in three sizes — bite sized (¾×1 in), miniature (nearly half the size of the bite-sized pieces), and original. Both smaller sizes are available in a frosted variety, which has one side coated with sugar and usually gelatin. Some manufacturers have produced "filled" versions of the bite-size cereal containing a raisin at the center, or apricot, blueberry, raspberry or cranberry filling.

In the United States, shredded wheat is most heavily advertised and marketed by Post Foods, which acquired the product in 1993 through its parent company, Kraft Foods, buying it from its long-time producer Nabisco. Kellogg's sells eight varieties of miniature, or bite-sized, shredded wheat cereal. Natural and organic manufacturer Barbara's Bakery makes an all-natural version of shredded wheat. In the United Kingdom, the Shredded Wheat brand is owned by Cereal Partners, a Nestlé/General Mills company, although there are many generic versions and variants by different names. It was first made in the United States in 1893, while UK production began in 1926.

Henry Perky invented shredded wheat cereal in Denver, Colorado, in 1890. Inspired by his observation of a dyspeptic diner blending wheat with cream, he developed a method of processing wheat into strips that were formed into pillow-like biscuits. The wheat is first cooked in water until its moisture content reaches about 50%. It is then tempered, allowing moisture to diffuse evenly into the grain. The grain then passes through a set of rollers with grooves in one side, yielding a web of shredded wheat strands. Many webs are stacked together, and this moist stack of strands is crimped at regular intervals to produce individual pieces of cereal with the strands attached at each end. These then go into an oven, where they are baked until their moisture content is reduced to 5%.
