Texan (chocolate bar)

Texan was a nougat/toffee bar covered with chocolate, manufactured during the 1970s and 1980s. It was withdrawn from sale in the 1980s but was briefly re-launched as a limited edition by Nestlé in 2005 during a wave of sweet-related nostalgia.

A 2004 survey of sweet shops' customers rated the Texan bar their favourite sweet of all time, by a large margin.

The advertisements for the Texan showed a cartoon cowboy, who was captured and tied to a stake. When asked if he had a last request he asked for a Texan bar which took him a long time to eat; meanwhile, the bandits fell asleep, ensuring his escape. The cowboy's catchphrases were "A man's gotta chew what a man's gotta chew", and "Sure is a mighty chew!".

Thomy

Thomy is a Swiss food brand owned by Nestlé. It produces condiments such as mayonnaise, mustard, salad dressings, tomato puree and cooking oil.

In 1907, Helvetia became the first company to produce mustard on an industrial scale in Switzerland. Its mustard was sold in bulk in large stoneware pots under the Langenthaler Senf brand. Subsequently renamed Thomi’s Lagenthaler Senf, the brand was eventually registered under the name Thomy’s Senf in 1930, with the ‘i’ being replaced with a ‘y’ in Thomy to make it a more internationally marketable name.

Hans Thomi, the founder of Thomi & Franck SA also decided to sell his mustard in a tube to set it apart from that of his competitors. In 1951 Thomy began mayonnaise production as well, while in 1976 they expanded to introduce bottled salad dressings. Thomy was acquired by Nestlé in 1971.

The Thomy man character, or “Thomymännli”, was the product of a competition held in 1931 in which the company asked its consumers for submissions. The competition received 20,000 responses, and the name Senf-Thomy was chosen along with the famous tube shaped character. The character has been the main icon for Thomy since the early 1990s.

Thomy is currently only produced in Switzerland and Germany, where production was begun in 1956, although it is exported throughout Europe.

Thomy currently runs operating plants in Karlsruhe and Neuss in Germany, and in Basel, Switzerland.

Thomy has been voted among the twenty most popular Swiss brands for the last ten years, demonstrating its popularity in Switzerland. It also enjoys a 99% recognition rate in Swiss households, and is consumed in over 2.3 million households.

An average Swiss household consumes about five Thomy mayonnaise tubes a year as well as three Thomy mustard tubes. The per capita consumption of mayonnaise and mustard in Switzerland is 1 kg and 500g respectively.

Tombstone (pizza)

Tombstone is a brand of frozen pizza. It is available with several variety toppings, including pepperoni, mushrooms, olives, onions, bell peppers, and sausage. The package design typically includes images of a cactus and the pizza.

Tombstone was founded in Medford, Wisconsin, United States, by Pep Simek, his brother, Ron Simek, and two other individuals in 1962. The name came from The Tombstone Tap, a tavern owned by the Simeks which was located across from a cemetery.

In 1986, the Tombstone Pizza Company became a wholly owned but "freestanding" division of Kraft Foods. The employees who worked for Tombstone at the time were allowed to keep their jobs, although Pep and Ron Simek stepped aside from their roles in the business.

On January 5, 2010, Kraft Foods announced it was selling its frozen pizza division to Switzerland-based Nestlé Foods as part of a plan to use the proceeds to purchase Cadbury, a maker of dairy milk chocolate. In addition to Tombstone, this included other pizza brands including DiGiorno, Jacks and California Pizza Kitchen (frozen pizza). The Kraft frozen pizza division is now part of Nestlé D.S.D. (direct store delivery).

"What do you want on your Tombstone?" was created by the Chicago office of advertising agency Foote, Cone & Belding, now part of the Interpublic Group of Companies'. The slogan was typically used in Western advertising campaigns: a typical television commercial would ostensibly appear to be a public execution, but when the supposed executioner would ask "what do you want on your tombstone?" (i.e. an epitaph), the accused would reply along the lines of "Pepperoni and cheese." A Tombstone pizza would then be summoned.

Uncle Tobys

Uncle Tobys is an Australian brand of breakfast cereals and other breakfast food products. The brand has a lot of history and is mentioned in an 1892 newspaper. Their main manufacturing base is located in the small town of Wahgunyah, on the NSW / Victorian Border. Following the gold rush in Australia, two brothers Leonard and George Parsons left England and started manufacturing John Bull Oats in Melbourne. In 1861 the Uncle Tobys Company was established, originally under the name of Parsons Bros.

Uncle Tobys was formerly part of the Goodman Fielder food company, but was split off in December 2005 by parent company Burns Philp. In 2006 Uncle Tobys brands and manufacturing facility were purchased by Cereal Partners Worldwide (CPW), a joint venture between Nestlé S.A. and General Mills. CPW's existing brands that were sold in Australia (such as Cheerios and Milo) were merged into the Uncle Tobys brand, and are now sold under that name. Uncle Tobys is labeled as being a subsidiary of Nestlé in Australia.

Vice Versas

Vice Versas are a type of chocolate produced in the UK by Nestlé, similar in composition to Galaxy Minstrels. A Vice Versa can exist in one of two varieties; one consisting of milk chocolate encased in a white coloured sugar coating; the other of white chocolate in a brown coating.

Vice Versas were first produced in the UK in 1991, but production was later discontinued. The chocolate sweet was re-launched in 2004, only to be withdrawn once more, roughly a year later. Nestlé offered the following explanatory statement on their website following the second discontinuation of Vice Versa production:

"We are sorry to inform you that the products have been withdrawn from our range due to the high cost of production and the relatively low level of sales. We would like to assure you that the decision to withdraw any product is reached only with great reluctance and we regret any disappointment this product's absence has caused you."

There exists a cult following for Vice Versas, and an online petition was drawn up following the second discontinuation of sale. In 2012, citing numerous fan pages and almost 10,000 requests for the product's return on Facebook, Nestlé relaunched Vice Versas in the UK.
