Acqua Panna

imageAcqua Panna

Acqua Panna is an Italian brand of bottled water. Acqua Panna takes its name from the Villa Panna in the hills of Tuscany, where the natural spring was first discovered.

The Acqua Panna source is located 3,700 feet high in the Apennine Mountains of Tuscany, to the north of Florence.

In the 16th century the powerful ruling family of the Medicis in Florence owned the spring, and it was fenced off as their private property. The family had fresh drinking water from this preserved natural spring whereas many other unclaimed springs were contaminated with animal waste.

This brand now belongs to San Pellegrino, which is owned by Nestlé.

Nestlé distributes the natural water into Europe & North America. Acqua Panna has become the exclusive bottled beverage at many luxury establishments.

In May 2010, large luxury hotel chains such as Hilton, OMNI, and Fairmont agreed to undisclosed terms with Nestlé to carry the brand in their hotel chains.

Parlour (ice cream)

Parlour is a brand of frozen dessert currently produced by Nestlé. It is not to be confused with an ice cream parlour, which is any type of vendor selling ice cream. Parlour comes in many different flavours and is available mainly in Canada. Originally produced by Sealtest Ice Cream Parlor in the United States (and branded by Ault Foods) as an ice cream, it no longer meets the legal definition of ice cream due to a change in the recipe; the high content of palm oils (see Mellorine). Parlour now competes with bigger brands of ice cream such as: Chapman's, Breyers and others.

Pearson Candy Company, Inc.

Pearson Candy Company, Inc. of Culver City, California was an American confectionery company founded in 1928 by Barney Pearson. The company manufactured over 30 candy products during its 42 years in business. Most notable was the Pearson Nips Candy which continues to be produced and sold today by Nestlé.

Formed in 1928, the Pearson Candy Company, Inc. was originally located in downtown Los Angeles on Fifth Street and Towne Avenue. In 1955, the business relocated to 10101 West Jefferson Boulevard and Pearson Street on seven acres adjacent to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture back lot.

Over 30 types of confectioneries were manufactured including lollipops, suckers, candy canes, and hand-wrapped candies. The Pearson Nip line was created in the early 1960s with the introduction of the Coffee Nip followed by the Caramel Nip, the Licorice Nip and other flavors. The company designed a candy forming apparatus which was patented in 1961.

The Pearson Coffee Nip was developed by observing European techniques. The formula for the Coffee Nip was created by Claude Barnett, a food chemist, and Dan Pearson. Dan Pearson requested a candy that people would eat during a work break, such as on a coffee break. Without a laboratory or test kitchen, research was done on a coffee candy formula using batch size samples. Claude used a high cooked caramel mixed with coffee until the right combination was achieved.

The unique wrappings observed in European wrapped candy inspired the use of gold foil and fancy cellophanes using double or single twist wraps. The original colors of the Coffee Nip wrappers were coffee brown, chartreuse and backed by a foil inner wrap producing the third color.

1. In 1968, Pearson Candy Company, Inc. was sold to W.R. Grace Company.

2. In 1982, W.R. Grace Company and Pearson Candy Company, Inc. holdings were sold to RJR Nabisco.

3. In 1989, RJR Nabisco and Pearson Candy Company, Inc. holdings were sold to Nestlé.

Perrier

imagePerrier

Perrier /ˈpɛri.eɪ/ (French pronunciation: [pɛʁ.je]) is a French brand of natural bottled mineral water captured at the source in Vergèze, located in the Gard département. Perrier is best known for its naturally occurring carbonation, distinctive green bottle, and higher levels of carbonation than its peers.

The spring from which Perrier water is sourced is naturally carbonated. The water is then purified, and, during bottling, the carbon dioxide gas is re-added so that the level of carbonation in bottled Perrier matches that of the Vergèze spring.

Perrier is available in 750 ml, 330 ml, and 200 ml glass bottles in Europe, as well as in 330 ml cans. In other markets, the 250 ml can is also available. Perrier bottles all have a distinctive 'teardrop' shape and are a signature green color. In August 2001, the company introduced a new bottling format using polyethylene terephthalate to offer Perrier in plastic, a change that was researched for 11 years to determine which material would best help retain both the water's flavor and its purported "50 million bubbles."

Perrier comes in several flavors: Natural, Lemon, and Lime have been in market for many years, and in 2007, Citron Lemon-Lime and Pamplemousse Rose (Pink Grapefruit) flavors debuted in the United States. In 2015, a Green Apple flavor was launched in France as well as the US. In 2016, a Mint flavor (Saveur Menthe) was introduced in France.

Poland Spring

imagePoland Spring

Poland Spring is a brand of bottled water manufactured in Poland, in the U.S. state of Maine. It is a subsidiary of Nestlé and sold in the United States. The spring was founded in 1845 by Hiram Ricker in the town of Alfred, Maine. Today the water is derived from multiple sources in the state of Maine including Poland Spring and Garden Spring in Poland, Maine, Clear Spring in Hollis, Evergreen Spring in Fryeburg, Spruce Spring in Pierce Pond Township, White Cedar Spring in Dallas Plantation, and Bradbury Spring in Kingfield.

Recently, the Poland Spring brand has adopted a bottle using 30% less plastic, as did the other Nestlé Waters North America brands. Poland Spring was around 2006 the top-selling spring water brand in America.

The spring has its origins in the late 18th century. In 1797, The Wentworth Ricker Inn opened at the homestead Jabez Ricker. In 1844, Jabez's grandson, Hiram Ricker claimed that spring water from the property cured him of chronic dyspepsia. In 1861, the inn was enlarged and renamed The Mansion House. The inn had grown to a resort, and his discussions with guests led them to also praise the drinking water. In this period, it was quite fashionable to "take the waters" for almost all illnesses, causing an uptick in business. The Rickers soon began bottling the water. Expanded again into an extravagant resort that locals dubbed "Ricker's Folly", the inn was renamed the Poland Spring House and opened On July 4, 1876. The inn remained a significant resort into the early 20th century, but the Ricker family lost control of the company during the 1930s. A resort still operates on the site.

In 1891 Maine's Bureau of Industrial and Labor Statistics listed 81 existing mineral springs. Twenty-three were used for commercial bottling, with total sales of $400,000. $200,000 of these sales were by Poland Spring.

Today Poland Spring sells the majority of its water in portable 8, 12, and 20 oz bottles; 500 ml, 700 ml, 1 L, and 1.5 L bottles, and also larger 5 gallon bottles usable in office or in home water dispensers. Smaller 3 L, 1 gallon and 2.5 gallon bottles are also available for sale in most supermarkets, and for home delivery in the Northeastern United States. Other varieties of Poland Spring include sparkling, lemon, lime, and distilled. They are also the producers of the Aquapod line of products.
