Ribeira dos Calhaus is a settlement in the western part of the island of São Nicolau, Cape Verde. It was once inhabited, now only people inhabit as visitors during the summer or winter months as a second home. It is situated 6 km north of Tarrafal de São Nicolau. It is one of three settlements inside the central mountain range in the municipality. It sits on the foot of Monte Gordo and is inside the natural park and the Central mountain range of Ilha de São Nicolau Important Bird Area. The village is connected with a dirt track that connects to the island's main road (EN1-ST01) over 1 km east and forms the secondary terminus of the branch road (EN3-ST05) and Fragata along with Ribeira da Prata. Nearby places includes Cachaço to the east, Hortelã to the south, Praia Branca to the northwest and Fragata to the north. The municipal boundary with Ribeira Brava is hundreds of meters to the east.

The settlement is named after a stream, the stream is 5 km long and the stream and settlement's name etymology is an abundance of cods (calhau) by the lowest part of the stream in the Atlantic, cods are mainly rarely founded today. It is the source of Ribeira dos Calhaus.

It has nothing to do with a village on the east of the São Vicente which is called Ribeira do Calhau, its popular name is simply Calhau.

Plant species found on the mountain slopes include Euphorbia tuckeyana, Limonium jovibarba and the endangered Nauplius smithii.
