Sennwald is a municipality in the Wahlkreis (constituency) of Werdenberg in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland.
Sennwald has an area, as of 2006[update], of 41.5 km2 (16.0 sq mi). Of this area, 49.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 31.5% is forested. Of the rest of the land, 9.4% is settled (buildings or roads) and the remainder (9.3%) is non-productive (rivers or lakes).
The blazon of the municipal coat of arms is the historical coat of arms of the barons of Hohensax, Per pale Or and Gules. It was adopted as the municipal coat of arms, with added diapering, in 1937.
Sennwald has a population (as of 31 December 2016) of 5,455. As of 2007[update], about 22.6% of the population was made up of foreign nationals. Of the foreign population, (as of 2000[update]), 79 are from Germany, 65 are from Italy, 391 are from ex-Yugoslavia, 116 are from Austria, 66 are from Turkey, and 103 are from another country. Over the last 10 years the population has grown at a rate of 11.6%. Most of the population (as of 2000[update]) speaks German (90.7%), with Serbo-Croatian being second most common ( 3.6%) and Albanian being third ( 1.5%). Of the Swiss national languages (as of 2000[update]), 4,067 speak German, 9 people speak French, 51 people speak Italian, and 11 people speak Romansh.
