"I Promised Myself" is a song written and originally performed by Nick Kamen. It was released as a single twice: first from his album Move Until We Fly in 1990, then as a remix in 2004. The original version achieved success in Austria and Sweden where it topped the charts. It was covered by 1980s band Dead or Alive, and in 2004, the song was covered by A-Teens. In 2009 the song was covered by eurodance artist Basshunter.

1 2004 version

A-Teens covered the song and released it as a single from their album Greatest Hits. The band's version of the track was produced by Grizzly and Tysper. It was one of three new songs the others being original. The song was the only new single on the album.

The video was directed by Gustav Jonhson and was filmed in Sweden and shows the band's members images inserted in scenes from past videos, so that they appear to be interacting with the teenagers they were before.

The video was a hit in both Sweden and Latin America reaching #1 on MTV Countdowns (MTV Top Ten Argentina) and it was the year's 23rd most played video on MTV South America and 34th in MTV Mexico. The song peaked at #1 on Tu Música (Argentina), #6 on Musica Total (Argentina), #7 on MTV Top Ten Mexico, and #12 on Much Music Top 20 Argentina.

It was released in April 2004 in Sweden (where it reached number-two) and in May 2005 around the globe. It reached number-one in Ukraine, Estonia, Chile, Colombia and Peru, number-six in Mexico and it reached fifty-three on the Official Eurochart.

The Swedish dance act Basshunter covered the song on his second UK album (third studio album), Bass Generation. The single was released on 30 November 2009.
