Bagel Bites

Bagel Bites are a frozen snack pizza bagel.

Bagel Bites were invented by Stanley Garkzynski and Bob Mosher, both of Fort Myers, Florida, and then later sold to a major food producer. It is currently owned by Heinz via the Ore-Ida brand.

The mini-bagels are topped with cheese and other pizza toppings. Bagel Bites are available in six flavors: Cheese & Pepperoni [1]; Three Cheese; Cheese, Sausage & Pepperoni; Mozzarella Cheese; Supreme; and Extreme Nacho (sold only in Canada). Bagel Bites come in 9, 18, 40, and 72 count varieties. Bagel Bites are manufactured in Southwest Florida.

Bagel Bites also markets Stuffed Bagel Bites, which consists of the toppings on the inside of the bagel dough crust. The stuffed snacks are available in Pepperoni & Cheese and Three Cheese. Preparation of Bagel Bites involves either a microwave or an oven.

During the 1990s, Bagel Bites ran a television commercial, most popular during children's programming, featuring the jingle:

Pizza in the evenin',
Pizza at suppertime!
When pizza's on a bagel,
You can eat pizza anytime!

The lyrics were altered from The McGuire Sisters' 1957 single Sugartime, written by Charlie "Sugartime" Phillips.

The jingle was recently performed on a web exclusive video for Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, in which he and Meat Loaf do a rock operatic style extended remake of the jingle (with additional lyrics), titled "Ode to Bagel Bites".

Celeste (frozen pizza)


Celeste is a brand of frozen pizza owned by Pinnacle Foods. It is widely referred to by its former name Mama Celeste. The brand's slogan is Abbondanza, which means "Abundance" in Italian.

The product was named after Celeste (née Luise) Lizio (1908-1988) who carried the nickname "Mama Celeste". She came to the United States from Italy with her husband Anthony in the 1920s. They settled on Chicago's West Side, where they opened their first restaurant in 1932. In 1962, the Lizios closed the restaurant and began selling pizzas to other restaurants. The Quaker Oats Company acquired the product in 1969. Celeste frozen pizza was one of the top selling brands in the 1970s (with Mrs. Lizio, "Mama Celeste," prominently featured in the brand's television advertising) but subsequently experienced declines. The Celeste brand was later acquired by Aurora Foods, and then Pinnacle Foods.

As of 2012, Pinnacle Foods marketed only frozen, microwavable "Pizza For One" varieties of Celeste pizzas. Distribution is now restricted to more regional markets.

DiGiorno


DiGiorno and Delissio are a co-owned brand of frozen pizzas sold in the United States and Canada, respectively, and are currently subsidiaries of Nestlé.

DiGiorno manufactures over 250,000 pizzas each day for consumers for national sale in the mainland United States. The DiGiorno product line originally offered pastas and sauces in 1991, and pizzas have been available nationally in the U.S. since 1995.

The brand's slogan is "It's not delivery. It's DiGiorno/Delissio," which suggests that their frozen pizzas are of high enough quality that they might be mistaken for fresh pizzeria pizzas. In the U.S., sports personality Dick Vitale is the primary pitchman, and has appeared in TV commercials for the pizza.

Delissio frozen pizzas were launched in Canada in 1999, although Kraft had previously used the Delissio brand for other pizza products in the 1980s.

In 2010, Kraft sold the DiGiorno and Delissio brands, along with the rest of its frozen pizza business, to Swiss-based food manufacturer Nestlé. The move helped to finance Kraft's bid for Cadbury, while also effectively ensuring that Nestlé would not submit a competing bid for the confectionery company. Since Nestlé acquired Kraft's frozen pizza business, the DiGiorno brand has expanded to include bonus appetizers in a box, including breadsticks, boneless chicken pieces called Wyngz, and Toll House cookies.

In 2013, DiGiorno's dairy supplier, Foremost Farms USA, dropped Wiese Brothers Farm after the animal rights organization Mercy for Animals released undercover footage showing workers there beating, dragging, and whipping dairy cows, some of which appear unable to walk, while others have infected or freely bleeding wounds. Nestlé and Foremost Farms USA denied any knowledge of the abuse.

On September 8, 2014, DiGiorno posted a tweet that read, "#WhyIStayed You had Pizza." The hashtag WhyIStayed went viral in the midst of a controversy brought out by the Ray Rice scandal of domestic abuse. There was a great amount of negative feedback from Twitter users aimed at the DiGiorno Twitter account. DiGiorno tweeted an apology promptly after the backlash it received. The hashtag was a central point where women had been discussing why they stayed in abusive and violent relationships. DiGiorno stated that they did not know what the hashtag was about before posting that tweet.

Pizza Grandiosa (Colloquially also referred to simply as Grandiosa or Grandis) refers to the most popular brand of frozen pizza in Norway. Grandiosa can also refer to the series of different Grandiosa variants. Grandiosa is Italian for great or grand.

Production of the original Grandiosa started on 11 February 1980, then produced by Nora (now Stabburet) in Stranda in Sunnmøre. Grandiosa was one of the first frozen pizzas produced in Norway. The pizza became vastly popular and is still the most sold pizza brand in Norway, in defiance of increasing competition from other local and international brands. In 2002 Stabburet responded to increased competition in the frozen food segment by reviving the brand with creative marketing and several new versions of Grandiosa. The pizza is also exported in smaller numbers to the neighbouring countries Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Poland and Iceland.

The pizza is subject to a lot of humorous debate, and is unquestionably a piece of modern culture, loathed and loved by Norwegians. It has been called the "modern national dish" by some, others claim it is "a piece of cardboard", "laziness in a box" and even "refrigerated evil".

In 2005 Grandiosa got its own unofficial book: "GrandiosaLAND". The book contains stories about the man who had a broken jaw and had to put his Grandiosa in a blender to eat it, and many other stories about Grandiosa, and favourite Norwegian pastimes such as hyttetur (trips to cabins typically located close to the sea/fjords or up in the mountains), russetid (the close to lawless celebration of the high school graduation) and dugnad (the collective activity of helping one another with mutual tasks through unpaid and voluntary work of importance to the community).

Grandiosa benefited from being first to the market and early creating surprisingly loyal customers. Lately Stabburet has used creative marketing to promote Grandiosa. Examples are their very successful SMS-vote marketing campaign for selecting new addition to the pizza in 2004. Another example is their hit mobile ring tone "Respekt for Grandiosa" (Respect for Grandiosa) which 300,000 downloaded within 1.5 months.

Home Run Inn is a restaurant chain known for their Chicago-style pizza as well as frozen pizzas. Home Run Inn is headquartered in Woodridge, Illinois of the United States.

In 1923, Mary and Vincent Grittani owned a small tavern on 31st Street in Chicago, Illinois along with their daughter Loretta and son-in-law Nick Perrino. When a home run from a nearby baseball game was hit through the tavern's window, they decided to rename the tavern Home Run Inn. In the 1940s, Mary Grittani developed the pizza recipe that is still being used today. Home Run Inn began selling frozen pizza in the 1950s, selling them in just the Chicago area. In 1986 and 1996 frozen manufacturing plants were constructed, one in Chicago and the second in Woodridge, IL. Home Run Inn is now distributing their Chicago frozen pizza to over 30 states.

As of 2015, Home Run Inn has eight locations, three locations in Chicago and five in the Chicago suburbs.

Home Run Inn was rated the number one frozen pizza in August, 2013 Consumer Reports.

Dr. Oetker


Dr. Oetker is a German company that produces baking powder, cake mixes, yogurts, frozen pizza, pudding, cake decoration, cornflakes and various other products.

Also included in the portfolio are a bank, a publishing company, an insurance outfit, breweries and a number of high-class hotels all over Europe.

The company was founded by Doctor August Oetker in 1891; the first product developed was "Backin", a pre-measured amount of baking powder that, when mixed with 500 grams (18 oz) of flour and other ingredients, produced a cake.

Dr. Oetker's son, Rudolf, died in the First World War. However Rudolf, and his wife, Ida, had two children, Rudolf-August and Ursula. Ida Oetker remarried Dr. Richard Kaselowsky, and they subsequently had four more children. Dr. Kaselowsky raised Rudolf-August and Ursula as his own.

Rudolf August Oetker, the grandson of Dr. August Oetker, led the company between 1944 and 1981, and during this period it achieved its highest growth. The company expanded its presence internationally, acquiring many companies around the world. When Rudolf Oetker stepped down from his leadership position, the 4th generation of the Oetker family took over from him. The family ownership established the management principle that "The interests of the company have priority over those of the family" (Annual Report Dr. August Oetker KG, 2005).

Dr. August Oetker, the great-grandson of the founder, led the company from 1981 until 2010. Under his tenure it expanded further in all areas, including shipping, food and brewing.

Richard Oetker, Dr. August Oetker's brother, took over as CEO in 2010.

Dr. Oetker purchased Australian food manufacturer Simplot Australia's frozen pizza business, including the iconic brand Papa Giuseppi's in January 2011.

In Brazil, the company has a site in São Paulo. The company supplies powdered desserts, frozen pizza and teas. The company has been established in Brazil since 1954.

Pizza Pops are a calzone-type snack produced by Pillsbury brand of General Mills. Pizza Pops are sold pre-cooked and frozen. Typically they are reheated in a microwave oven but they may also be cooked in a regular oven.

They come in several varieties such as "Hawaiian", "Three Meat", "Pepperoni", "Pepperoni & Bacon", "Deluxe", "Cheese Burger", "Canadian", "Three Cheese", and "Poutine". All varieties of Pops, except for the three cheese, contain pizza sauce, pizza topping, and meat. They may also contain vegetables, such as green peppers or mushrooms, and artificial colours and flavours, such as Yellow 5.

Pizza Pops are available only in Canada. Chili Pops and Veggie Pops were introduced at the same time in the 1980s, but were discontinued within a few years. Chili Pops were reintroduced along with the introduction of Fajita Pops in the 1990s, but both were discontinued as well within a few years.

Pizza Pops contain 0.3 grams of trans-fat per serving.
