Crumbs Bake Shop (aka Crumbs or Crumbs Bakery) was a bakery chain headquartered in New York City. Founded in 2003 as a small mom-and-pop style bakery on the Upper West Side of Manhattan by Mia & Jason Bauer, the company expanded to 79 locations in eight states (New York, Illinois, Virginia, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and California) and Washington, D.C..

Crumbs was the largest cupcake chain in the United States. It produced more than 50 varieties of gourmet cupcakes. Crumbs reopened on October 14, 2014 at its Broadway location in New York and other locations after a three-month shutdown, but then closed all of its reopened stores permanently in December 2016.

On August 6, 2012, the company announced a partnership with Starbucks to serve their brand of coffees, teas, and other assorted beverages. The partnership ended in September 2013 due to a sharp decrease in sales and customer satisfaction.

On May 15, 2013, the company announced it had partnered with chef and restaurateur David Burke to begin marketing a new line of gourmet sandwiches and salads to be sold at select Crumbs locations. This partnership ended roughly a month later due to poor sales.

On September 13, 2013, the company announced the planned opening of their first ever gluten-free store in lower Manhattan. Crumbs Gluten Free featured the same cupcakes, cookies, brownies and pastries that the brand is known for in gluten-free versions.

On February 4, 2014, the company announced a partnership with Pelican Bay Ltd. to create a line of At-Home kits, including Crumbs Cupcake mixes, hot chocolate kits, cupcake-in-a-mug kits and "Colossal" cupcake kits. The line was sold at club and craft stores across the country. The company shut the doors for customers on 12/19/2016.

Country Club Bakery

Country Club Bakery, located in Fairmont, West Virginia, USA, is a small family owned bakery that is significant because it is the home of the pepperoni roll. The pepperoni roll is a snack popular in West Virginia and some nearby regions of the Appalachian Mountains. Ubiquitous in West Virginia (particularly in convenience stores), but typically little known elsewhere, it is arguably the food most closely associated with the state (a competitor for this distinction is the ramp). The first pepperoni rolls were created at the Country Club Bakery in Fairmont, West Virginia by Giuseppe "Joseph" Argiro at the Country Club Bakery in Fairmont in 1927, some argue that it was not invented until the 1940s, but no one disputes that they originated at the Country Club Bakery. Fairmont, West Virginia, claims the title of "Pepperoni Roll Capital of the World."

The rolls originated as a lunch option for the coal miners of north-central West Virginia in the first half of the twentieth century. The pepperoni roll bears a resemblance to the pasty and sausage roll, which originated in the mining communities of Great Britain, as well as to the Italian calzone. All these foods allow a miner on a break from a tiring and dirty job to eat a full meal with a minimum of fuss. Pepperoni and other Italian foods became popular in north-central West Virginia in the early 20th century, when the booming mines and railroads attracted many immigrants from Italy.

Dancing Deer Baking Co.

imageDancing Deer Baking Co

Dancing Deer Baking Co. is a Boston based bakery that sells kosher-certified cookies, brownies, cakes and baking mixes in the specialty/natural products, food service/travel/hospitality, business gifts and direct-to-consumer marketplaces. A variety of Dancing Deer products are also available in grocery chains and specialty food stores across the United States and certain parts of Canada, including nationally recognized Whole Foods Market.

The company is noted for producing all-natural, preservative-free products.

Dancing Deer was incorporated in 1994 by three founders, Suzanne Lombardi, a baker who originated many of Dancing Deer's recipes, Ayis Antoniou, a business strategist and Trish Karter, an artist and businesswoman.

The company started out in a former pizza parlor in West Roxbury, Massachusetts on a busy street corner with a couple of convection ovens. At that time, their specialty was cakes, sold primarily to cafes and restaurants. In 1996, they brought out a line of packaged consumer goods under the Dancing Deer label. The company reported revenues of more than $10 million by 2007.

In 2008, the company made a strategic decision to focus on growing the corporate gift portion of the business. Dancing deer has the ability to print the corporate logos on gift tins and boxes and cookies can be imprinted with corporate logos. Revenues from corporate gifts represented about 15% of annual revenues in 2008 and by late 2008 this was up to over 18%.

In September 2010, Karter stepped down from her role as CEO of the company to pursue a life outside of baking. Frank Carpenito became CEO in 2010 and left the position in July 2016.

The name for the company came from Lombardi's grandmother, Erma Shaw, who owned a gift shop and antique store named Dancing Deer in Bar Harbor, Maine. The company also borrowed recipes including the famous Deep Dark Gingerbread Cake.

Dong Phuong Oriental Bakery

Dong Phuong Oriental Bakery (Vietnamese: Đông Phương, literally "The Orient") is a Vietnamese retail and wholesale bakery, restaurant, and catering business in New Orleans, Louisiana. It is known for supplying the baguette style bread for many of the city's restaurants that offer banh mi or other sandwiches, and has its own popular banh mi counter. The bakery, along with the nearby Mary Queen of Vietnam Catholic Church, were fixtures of the Vietnamese community in New Orleans even before surviving the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. It is located at 14207 Chef Menteur Highway in the "Little Vietnam" section of Eastern New Orleans. It is attached to a sit-down restaurant of the same name that serves a variety of Vietnamese and Chinese dishes, including phở, bún thịt nướng, bún riêu, and bánh hỏi.

De and Huong Tran, Vietnamese immigrants to the United States, opened Dong Phuong in 1981. Huong learned to bake pastries in her father’s bakery in Vietnam and De joined in the effort to recreate his favorite childhood foods.

The bakery's banh mi sandwiches are often referred to as Vietnamese po-boys. Guidebook author Sara Roahen refers to the bakery as the Vietnamese Leidenheimer's, because Dong Phuong supplies bread for the area's banh mi makers. The bread is also used at the restaurant Borgne and Tamarind, whose unusual banh mi offering include cured lamb belly, slow braised pork and sautéed shrimp marinated with crushed garlic and Kaffir lime leaf.

Dozen Bake Shop

imageDozen Bake Shop

Dozen Bake Shop was a bakery in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. While a variety of baked goods and other dishes were offered, cupcakes were Dozen's specialty and featured product.

It was founded in late 2006 by James Gray, a graduate of Chicago Culinary Institute. The opening came amid a national cupcake trend, leading Gray to believe that the time was right to open a cupcake-heavy bakery in Pittsburgh, as he believed that the trend had already played out in New York City or Chicago. Andew Twigg was a co-owner with Gray.

The bakery developed a strong brand and a social media presence, using Facebook and Twitter to alert customers of daily specials and other offers. The Twitter account became one of the most popular in Pittsburgh. Dozen Bake Shop is the official cupcake of the Pittsburgh Penguins and their cupcakes are available at the Consol Energy Center.

The baking philosophy focused on using local sourcing, especially local produce and herbs.

The "Elvis" was a featured item; it was a banana cupcake with chocolate hazelnut filling, topped with peanut butter buttercream icing. Baker Megan Hart introduced edible roses in 2012.

The first Dozen Bakeshop location, a 700 sq ft (65 m2) storefront, opened in Squirrel Hill on December 26, 2006. During 2007, the bakery made $340,000 in sales. By the end of 2007, the Pittsburgh City Paper named Dozen the "Best place to indulge your sweet tooth."

In January 2008, 1,300 sq ft (120 m2) bakery was opened in Lawrenceville, allowing Dozen to expand into catering. By then, the bakery had 9 employees. During the first half of 2009, two locations opened, a 250 sq ft (23 m2) storefront on Liberty Avenue in Downtown and at The Andy Warhol Museum on the North Shore. In October 2009, a 555 sq ft (51.6 m2) location opened on Carson Street in the South Side.
