Frost Gelato

imageFrost Gelato

Frost Gelato is an international chain of gelato specialty shops founded in Tucson, Arizona, United States in 2005. Frost Gelato has received multiple awards for their gelato including being Tucson Lifestyle's Best of City for ten years in a row as well as being on Yahoo Food's 18 Best Ice Cream Shops in America.

Frost Gelato serves over 75 gelato and sorbet flavors all created fresh in store daily. The company also imports all of their ingredients, with the exception of milk and sugar, as well as their machinery from Italy.

The concept of Frost Gelato came when founders Jeff Kaiserman and Stephen Ochoa were in Rome on a hot summer day and all they could find was hot bottled water, upon searching for something cold they came across a Gelateria where they tasted the ice cream and were told that it was gelato. Both owners enjoyed the gelato so much that they made it a mission to try the best gelato each town had to offer as they continued to travel to other cities in Italy. Upon return to the United States, both owners tried many ice cream shops and could not find one that came close to the taste of the ice cream they had in Italy concluding that the only way to get gelato at the time was to make another trip to Italy.

Thus both owners searched for a way to make gelato in the United States eventually locating a company that imports ingredients directly from Italy, after spending days studying how to make gelato, the owners created their first batch and after sampling it felt the tastes they had come across in Italy. Both owners wanted to share the taste of gelato with their community and thus after a few months, Frost Gelato was founded in 2005 with the first store opening in Tucson, Arizona.

Frost Gelato has since expanded both in the United States and internationally since opening the first store in Tucson, Frost Gelato now operates in 11 cities in the United States across six states as well as in nine countries across the Middle East and North Africa including Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Most locations aside from the original store are franchises.

Frostop

imageFrostop

Frostop is the name of an American root beer brand and chain of fast food drive-in restaurants. The restaurants are known for their rotating oversized root beer mugs used as outdoor signage.

The first Frostop root beer stand was opened in 1926 in Springfield, Ohio by L.S. Harvey. A chain of franchise locations was established, with the biggest growth following World War II. The Frostop drive-ins reached their peak in 1958 with locations concentrated mostly in the American midwest and deep south, but found from New York and Florida to California and Washington state.

Frostop brand products—Root Beer, Sarsaparilla, Red Birch Beer, Orange Cream, and a Vanilla Caramel Cream soda—are still available in supermarkets and convenience stores in California, Illinois, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, Ohio, Oregon, Washington, and Wisconsin. Although not as numerous as in their 1950s and 1960s heyday, Frostop drive-in franchises can still be found scattered across America.

Fuddruckers

imageLuby’s Fuddruckers Restaurants, LLC

Fuddruckers is an American fast casual, franchised restaurant chain that specializes in hamburgers. The Fuddruckers concept is to offer large hamburgers in which the meat is ground on-site and buns are baked on the premises. As of 2015, Fuddruckers had 77 company-operated restaurants and 111 franchises across the United States with one in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, four in Bahrain, one in Chile, two in Italy, two in Mexico, one in Panama, one in Dominican Republic, one in Poland, one in Puerto Rico, two in Beirut, Lebanon, one in Morocco, five in United Arab Emirates and twelve in Saudi Arabia and recently in Colombia. The company headquarters is in Houston, Texas.

Fuddruckers was founded as Freddie Fuddruckers in 1979 by Philip J. Romano in San Antonio, Texas, in a location converted to a restaurant from an old bank. He started the chain because he thought that "the world needed a better hamburger." The Fuddruckers concept was to offer large hamburgers in which the meat was ground on-site and buns were baked on the premises and hamburgers and other dishes were offered with "lots of fresh sliced tomatoes, onions, lettuce and vats of cheese sauce." In California, Fuddruckers competed at the high end of the fast food market against chains such as Flakey Jake's, sometimes with head-to-head competitions in places such as Northridge, California. By 1988, there were 150 restaurants in the chain, according to a report in The New York Times. Romano left the chain in 1988 to found Romano's Macaroni Grill. In an interview, Romano stated that "I just felt I had done all I could for the concept."
