Smirnykhovsky District (Russian: Смирныхо́вский райо́н) is an administrative district (raion) of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia; one of the seventeen in the oblast.Municipally, it is incorporated as Smirnykhovsky Urban Okrug. It is located in the central part of the Island of Sakhalin. The area of the district is 10,457 square kilometers (4,037 sq mi). Its administrative center is the urban locality (an urban-type settlement) of Smirnykh. Population: 13,142 (2010 Census);15,063 (2002 Census);21,583 (1989 Census). The population of Smirnykh accounts for 56.3% of the district's total population.
