Gavin Christopher Tennille (professionally known as Quelle Chris) is an American rapper and producer from Detroit, Michigan. He is a current member of hip hop duo Crown Nation (with Denmark Vessey).
Tennille was born in New York City from a family of Detroiters. His father’s work as a shoe designer kept the family moving around the country, but Detroit remains the place he most naturally calls home. He has lived in Detroit, Chicago, Oakland, Brooklyn, St. Loius and Los Angeles.
Quelle emerged as a rapper and producer in the mid-2000s amid Detroit's effervescent scene with help and support from the likes of DJ Houseshoes and rap group Wasted Youth (Big Tone, 87, and Goose). He formed Crown Nation with Denmark Vessey in 2006, and recorded under Q-Life and Quelle monikers. In 2009, he dropped Blue Mondays, toured with Black Milk and produced several tracks on Danny Brown's early albums.
Around 2011, he settled on the nickname Quelle Chris and released his debut album Shotgun & Sleek Rifle on November 15, 2011, featured guest appearances from Big Tone, Danny Brown, Roc Marciano. After releasing two EPs as part of the experimental group Racehorses Are Resources (with poet/activist John Sinclair and producer Nick Speed), Chris signed to Mello Music Group. The single "Rappin Ass", the mixtape Niggas Is Men and full-length Ghost At The Finish Line were released in 2013. Following production work for Pharoahe Monch, Diamond District, Open Mike Eagle, and others, the full-length Innocent Country with Bay Area producer Chris Keys appeared in 2015, followed by the instrumental album Lullabies For The Broken Brain in 2016. Being You Is Great, I Wish I Could Be You More Often came out on February 10, 2017; the album featured guest appearances or production by Jean Grae, Elzhi, The Alchemist and others.
