Lucas is a city in Collin County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census the population was 5,166, up from 2,890 at the 2000 census.
Lucas is located in south central Collin County at 33°06′05″N 96°34′41″W / 33.101526°N 96.577988°W. It is bordered by Fairview to the north, Allen to the west, Parker to the southwest, Wylie to the south, St. Paul to the southeast, Wylie again to the southeast, and Lavon Lake to the east.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city of Lucas has a total area of 12.6 square miles (32.7 km2), of which 0.02 square miles (0.06 km2), or 0.17%, is water.
As of the 2010 census the population of Lucas was 5116. The ethnic and racial composition of the population was 87.9% non-Hispanic white, 1.3% non-Hispanic black, 0.9% Native American, 2.2% Asian, 0.1% non-Hispanic from some other race, 2.2% from two or more races and 6.0% Hispanic or Latino of any race.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,890 people, 945 households, and 855 families residing in the city. The population density was 314.3 people per square mile (121.3/km2). There were 962 housing units at an average density of 104.6 per square mile (40.4/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 80.44% White, 8.42% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.00% from other races, and 1.31% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.56% of the population.
