Fan Milk

imageFan Milk

Fan Milk is a manufacturer and retailer of ice cream and frozen dairy products which has a leading position on the West African market.

In 2013, The Abraaj Group, a growth markets private equity investor acquired 100% of the Fan Milk business in West Africa.

Fan Milk Nigeria Plc was founded in 1960 by a Danish Merchant and Industrialist Erik Emborg with a recombination-plant at Ibadan, a distribution centre in Lagos with less than 30 employees.

The plant produced fresh milk from imported milk powder. Initially, the product range was white milk, chocolate milk, cottage cheese and set yoghurt. The main outlet was bicycle vendors supplied with cold products from a growing number of smaller depots.

In the 1970s Fan Milk introduced yoghurt drink, ice lollies, ice cream and new Tetra Pak packaging technology. The new products became very popular in the market and generated the financial strength to set up further depots and, in 1981, a second recombination-plant in Kano came up.

At the outset, the foreign partner owned 96 per cent of Fan Milk Plc. When the government introduced The Nigerian Enterprises Promotion Decree in the late 1970s. Fan Milk Plc increased its capital and invited more Nigerians to invest which created a 60 per cent Nigerian participation in the company.

During the 1980s and 1990s, import restrictions, economic difficulties, devaluations and shortages of fuel weakened Fan Milk Plc. In 1998 the foreign partner and the industrialization Fund for Developing Countries (Denmark) agreed to an infusion of capital which let the company restructure finances, refurbish cold rooms, increase the number of depots and introduce a product, Tampico, a fruit drink which became an instant success in the market.

The expansion and rehabilitation programme returned Fan Milk Plc to profitability. Fan Milk has sister companies in Ghana, Senegal, Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso and Code d'Ivoire. The headquarters of the foreign partner, Fan Milk International is situated in Aalborg, Denmark.

Fan Milk Limited is a Ghanaian dairy retailer based in Accra. It has since begun operating in Benin, Togo and Burkina Faso. They are listed on the of the , the GSE All-Share Index. It was incorporated in 1960 and was previously known as the Ghanaian Milk Company. It took advantage of Danish investment in the early 1960s and initially specialised in pasteurized milk. However, in 1962, the company changed its name to Fan Milk Limited, and branched out into the production of ice cream, yoghurt and ice lollies. The name has since become a household name in Ghana, and is a common sight to see ice cream carts and bicycles on beaches and the streets selling the brand.

Floats (drink)

imageFloats

Floats are a beverage line introduced by the Dr Pepper Snapple Group in January 2008. Two flavors are available, A&W Float and Sunkist Float. The purpose of the concept is to mimic the flavor of an ice cream float of a given soda. Thus, the A&W flavor is intended to taste like a root beer float, while the latter is comparable to an orange creamsicle or Sunkist float.

The drinks are creamy in nature and contain little carbonation, and no caffeine. Ingredients include skim milk, cream, and nitrous oxide to create foam. While it is recommended that they be served chilled, refrigeration of Floats is not mandatory. Available in 11.5-ounce, vintage soda-shop-inspired glass bottles with twist-off tops, Floats are sold at major US retail, grocery, and convenience stores.

The product's first press release was issued on January 2, 2008, which included bottle design photos, suggested retail prices, and other information.

In the press release, Andrew Springate, vice president of marketing, stated:

According to Cadbury Schweppes, "the Floats concept was one of the highest scoring product ideas from our Discovery Innovation Group. This group is challenged to find and create new ideas across our brand portfolio."

Frost Gelato

imageFrost Gelato

Frost Gelato is an international chain of gelato specialty shops founded in Tucson, Arizona, United States in 2005. Frost Gelato has received multiple awards for their gelato including being Tucson Lifestyle's Best of City for ten years in a row as well as being on Yahoo Food's 18 Best Ice Cream Shops in America.

Frost Gelato serves over 75 gelato and sorbet flavors all created fresh in store daily. The company also imports all of their ingredients, with the exception of milk and sugar, as well as their machinery from Italy.

The concept of Frost Gelato came when founders Jeff Kaiserman and Stephen Ochoa were in Rome on a hot summer day and all they could find was hot bottled water, upon searching for something cold they came across a Gelateria where they tasted the ice cream and were told that it was gelato. Both owners enjoyed the gelato so much that they made it a mission to try the best gelato each town had to offer as they continued to travel to other cities in Italy. Upon return to the United States, both owners tried many ice cream shops and could not find one that came close to the taste of the ice cream they had in Italy concluding that the only way to get gelato at the time was to make another trip to Italy.

Thus both owners searched for a way to make gelato in the United States eventually locating a company that imports ingredients directly from Italy, after spending days studying how to make gelato, the owners created their first batch and after sampling it felt the tastes they had come across in Italy. Both owners wanted to share the taste of gelato with their community and thus after a few months, Frost Gelato was founded in 2005 with the first store opening in Tucson, Arizona.

Frost Gelato has since expanded both in the United States and internationally since opening the first store in Tucson, Frost Gelato now operates in 11 cities in the United States across six states as well as in nine countries across the Middle East and North Africa including Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Lebanon, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. Most locations aside from the original store are franchises.

Frosty (frozen dairy dessert)

The Frosty is the signature frozen dessert of Wendy’s fast-food restaurants, originally available only in chocolate, now in chocolate and vanilla flavors.

The dessert is a type of frozen dairy dessert. It was only available as chocolate until vanilla was introduced in 2006 after repeated requests by consumers. Although the Wendy's on Central Ave in Yonkers has had the Vanilla Frosty since 1993.

The Frosty was invented by Borden's dairyman John Bowers at the request of Wendy's owner, Dave Thomas. When the first Wendy's opened in 1969, chocolate, which is actually a combination of chocolate and vanilla (swirl), was the only flavor offered. Dave Thomas thought that 100 percent chocolate would be too overpowering a flavor when paired with a Wendy's burger and fries meal. A second flavor, vanilla, was introduced in 2006.

Frosty Paws

Frosty Paws, formerly Pet79, and Fido Freeze is a brand of ice cream, specifically formulated and sold for dogs. It is produced by Nestlé, under their Nestlé Dreyer's Ice Cream Company ice cream unit; branded under the Purina brand name.

Frosty Paws were originally exclusively available in the original (Vanilla)-flavor ice cream cups. The ice cream cups were originally invented in the 1970s by Dr William Tyznik, a professor emeritus of animal science at The Ohio State University. Diane McIntyre, Nestlé spokeswoman stated, "He was a regular visitor to his local ice cream parlour, where he often saw two elderly ladies feeding ice cream to their dogs. When he advised them that this was not the most suitable food for their pets, the ladies challenged him to create a dog-friendly alternative."

Tyznik sampled several various recipes with his own dogs. Finally, in 1979, with the help of two friends, Tyznik's decided to launch of the Vanilla flavor of Frosty Paws ice cream cups, under the first, and original brand name Pet79. The product was the first frozen treat for dogs ever introduced onto The United States market. Tyznik later went on to create and produce TizWhiz horse feed, and Cycle (dog food). By 1981, the brand's name was changed to Fido Freeze.

In 1985, Frosty Paws was acquired by the Drumstick Ice Cream Company for an undisclosed amount. Frosty Paws was owned by Drumstick for a total of six years. In 1991, Drumstick, along with the Frosty Paws brand was in turn acquired by Nestlé in 1991.

Nestlé went on to introduce a Peanut Butter flavor of Frosty Paws ice cream cups in 2005, based on research carried out by its Purina PetCare Company division into dogs' preferred tastes. On August 19, 2011, Nestlé unveiled Frosty Paws Bites, a line of bite-sized, which specially formulated for dogs, who are lactose intolerant and cannot properly digest dairy products such as normal ice cream. Frosty Paws Bites contain vitamins and minerals, and are milk-free. They are available in Vanilla or Peanut Butter flavors (as are the ice cream cup variety of Frosty Paws), and coated with vanilla yogurt (a major difference from the ice cream cup range, as they are not coated in vanilla yogurt), they are the second, and latest line of products from the Frosty Paws brand.

Fudgie the Whale

Fudgie the Whale is a type of ice cream cake produced and sold by Carvel in its franchise stores. It was developed by Carvel in the 1970s as an expansion of its line of freshly made products, along with Hug-Me Bear and Cookie Puss.

Although the cake depicts the shape of a whale and was originally decorated as such, it was sometimes adapted for holiday uses by rotating it 90 degrees counter-clockwise so that the whale's body, now upright, could represent a face. The whale's tail would then represent whatever a character traditionally had on its head: the Easter Bunny's ears, a leprechaun's hat, or Santa Claus's tassel. But Fudgie the Whale was usually promoted around Father's Day, using the slogan, "For a whale of a dad."

Fudgie the Whale has been the subject of parody for comedians Patton Oswalt, Kevin Smith and Billy Crystal. It has also been used for comedic effect on television shows such as How I Met Your Mother, The Simpsons, The Daily Show, Damages, Family Guy, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and The Office.

In the early 1980s, David Letterman "Exposed" the cake as really being a dog in disguise.

An episode of The Colbert Report displayed what Colbert called a "Prophet Muhammad Carvel ice cream cake", which depicted Fudgie the Whale with a turban.

An episode of 2 Broke Girls shows the main characters talking about and eventually obtaining a fudgy on the bus ride back home from visiting Caroline's Dad in prison.
