Dum Dums (lollipop)


Dum Dums are sphere-shaped lollipops named by I. C. Bahr, a sales manager at the Akron Candy Company in Bellevue, Ohio, in 1924. In 1953, the Dum Dum Pop was purchased by the Spangler Candy Company and moved manufacturing to Bryan, Ohio.

Dum Dums are made in sixteen flavors with new flavors rotating into the mix every so often. The Mystery Flavor is a result of the end of one batch mixing with the next batch, rather than stopping production to clean machines in between flavors.

Dumle

Dumle is a brand of chocolate-covered toffees marketed and manufactured by Fazer.

The toffees were first manufactured in 1945 by Mazetti (), a chocolate and confectionery producer in Malmö, Sweden. The original sweet consisted of a hard toffee lollipop coated in chocolate, but was not branded Dumle until 1960, possibly as a reference to children's television series Humle och Dumle (), one of the first broadcast on Swedish television.

The manufacturer was acquired by Fazer in 1975, and in 1987 Fazer released a new product with a softer toffee covered in chocolate and packaged in a candy wrapper, which is now named Dumle original.

The brand now contains a range of chocolate-covered caramels and toffees, including a range of chocolates and ice creams. A number of variations and limited editions have been produced, including apple, salty liquorice, mint, gingerbread, mango-orange and chocolate-flavoured soft toffees, often with distinguishing colours on their wrappers.

Eclipse (breath freshener)


Eclipse is a brand of chewing gum and breath mint, first introduced in the U.S. by the Wrigley Company in 1999 as its first entrant into the pellet gum segment. However, it was modeled after Excel in Canada, which was launched in 1991, eight years before Eclipse was launched.

Eclipse is a brand that promises to give users "powerful fresh breath". It comes in blister packs of 12, the Big-E-Pak - 60 count plastic container of candy-coated pellets, and the recently added split packs that include 18 pellets. Eclipse gum is available in the U.S, Australia and Latvia, but are also sold in Canada under the name Excel.

Mints, in metal and paper (Europe) containers, are also sold by Wrigley under the Eclipse brand, as is Eclipse Ice gum.

In late 2007, the American Dental Association awarded its seal of approval to Eclipse sugarfree gum. Orbit and Extra, two other chewing gum products from the same company, also bear the ADA seal.

An Eclipse mint is an oval prism rounded at top and bottom, with the top and bottom halves varying in colour, depending on the flavor. Spearmint (green), peppermint and Black Chill (blue), and Winterfrost (dark blue) are available, as well as cinnamon (all pink), orange (light orange) and blackcurrant (purple).

The ingredients in the Australian and New Zealand cinnamon product are sorbitol, flavor, anticaking agent (470), sweeteners (955, 950) and colours (129, 133); while the orange product contains food acid (330), sweetener (951) (instead of 950), and colours (102, 129) (instead of 129, 133). The orange product advises that it contains Phenylalanine.

Though classified as breath mints, it is unknown if the mints contain active antibacterial ingredients. The new packaging now claims to have a 'natural ingredient' that is scientifically proven to help kill the germs that cause bad breath. Such ingredient is not specified but the label points to a pending patent for this ingredient. Wrigley's product website for Eclipse describes the ingredient as Magnolia bark extract (MBE), which has its origins in traditional Chinese medicine. In lab tests, MBE is said to have killed almost all oral bacteria, including the types that cause bad breath and cavities. Eclipse is the first product in the US to contain MBE.

An energy mint is a mint candy that is designed to give the consumer a burst of energy through a combination of energy enhancing ingredients. Energy mints commonly contain caffeine,taurine, various forms of ginseng, B vitamins, or other herbal ingredients. Some contain high levels of sugar, while a few are sugar-free. These mints are popular among young people, computer programmers, gamers, and students.

According to the Wall Street Journal (February 13, 2008), energy mints are part of a relatively new and rapidly expanding "Energy Candy" trend. Major brand names in North America include Peak Energy Mints, Ed Hardy Energy Mints, Penguin Mints, Revive Energy Mints, Bawls mints, VoJo Energy Mints and YJ Stingers Mints.

Euromints are caffeinated peppermints are "feel good" mints containing a small amount of caffeine (about 15 mg per mint). Three mints are equal to one cola beverage.

The mints are made by Eurobrand in California. They are used by clubbers, bosses, gamers, late shift workers, and anyone else wishing to extend their period of attentiveness.

The Everlasting Gobstopper is both a fictional brand of candy and an actual confection named after the fictional product.

According to Roald Dahl's book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the fictional Everlasting Gobstopper is a candy that not only changes colors and flavors, but can never be finished, and never even gets smaller. It is implied that they may also be indestructible. Factory owner Willy Wonka explained that they were "for children with very little pocket money".

Although only briefly mentioned in the book and its 2005 film adaptation, the 1971 film adaptation Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory used the Everlasting Gobstopper as a plot device in which Wonka's business rival Slugworth attempts to bribe the children visiting the Wonka factory to steal one for him. This is later revealed as a lie; Slugworth is actually Mr. Wilkinson, one of Wonka's workers. The proposal is a test Wonka set up to judge the worthiness of the ticket holders to take over the factory, given to all five children.

The actual Everlasting Gobstopper 'prop' used in the Gene Wilder movie was sold for $100,000 to the owners of TV show Pawn Stars.

A product called Everlasting Gobstopper was introduced in 1976 by the Chicago candy company Breaker Confections. It had licensed the "Willy Wonka" name in 1971 so that their candy could be used as merchandising tie-ins for Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory film, which was released the same year.The Willy Wonka Candy Company brand has since been bought by Nestlé and production has been moved to Itasca, Illinois.

Excel (gum)


Wrigley's Excel is a line of chewing gum and mints available in Canada since 1991. Eclipse is the American version of Excel.

For many years, Excel used the slogan "Excel-erate your breath", which has recently been replaced by "Eat, drink, chew, Excel". The advertisements are using food creatures since 2010, the same characters that Extra gum is using.

In January 2006, a sub-brand named "Excel Extreme", with flavors Fuse, Voltage, Charge and Shock, was released, replacing the Excel cherry and lemon flavours. A year later, an American version called Wrigley's 5 was created, but the gum was sold in sticks instead of pellets. The Excel Extreme brand was replaced by Wrigley's 5 in 2008.

In June 2008, Wrigley's replaced Freedent Total with Excel White. It is currently available in three flavours : Spearmint, Bubblemint and Winterfresh.

A Canadian version of Orbit Mist introduced in 2010.

During the duration of the Winter Olympics of 2010, each piece of gum had a small edible maple leaf printed on to support the Canadian Olympic Team. In partnership with Chinese Stomatological Association in 2012, Excel released the first dental health app in China-Ai Ya Qing Song Xue(爱牙轻松学),developed by FabriQate.

In advertisements, the food creatures, donut, coffee, garlic, onion, green onion, pizza and cigarette, follow people. But when they take an Excel gum piece, food creatures run away showing that gum makes bad breath disappear.

Extra (gum)


Extra is a brand of sugarfree chewing gum produced by the Wrigley Company in North America, Europe, and some parts of Africa and Australasia.

Extra was launched in 1987 as the Wrigley Company's first ever sugarfree product, and became one of the most popular brands of chewing gum in the United States within a few years. It was also the first sugarfree gum not to use saccharin, instead using the NutraSweet brand, a sweetener developed by G.D. Searle & Co. that had less bitterness and was believed to be safer in humans and laboratory animals; it was later reformulated with aspartame in 1997.

The brand identity of Extra gum varies considerably in different markets, often having completely different flavours, logos and slogans for each country. Extra is currently the sponsor of Mexico national team.

In 2007, Extra became the first chewing gum to receive the American Dental Association's Seal of Acceptance.

In 2011, Extra Oral Healthcare Program partnered with the Chinese Ministry of Health to launch a three-year community oral care education pilot program, which establishes community dental clinics, trains local dentists and establishes oral care records for 7,000 families across 14 communities. The results of the program will inform the Ministry of Health’s future oral care policy. In the second project year, the team decided to build an application for oral health teaching among families, especially for some undeveloped cities.

In the UK, gum that had been sold as Orbit was renamed Extra in 2015, with the same 14-piece package.

Fanny Farmer


Fanny Farmer was an American candy manufacturer and retailer.

Fanny Farmer was started in Rochester, New York by Frank O'Connor in 1919 and grew to over 400 stores before being bought and consolidated. The company was named in honor of culinary expert Fannie Farmer, who had died four years earlier; she had nothing to do with the candy stores, and her recipes were not being used. "The spelling of the first name was altered to avoid confusion." However, as a marketing device, it suggested reflected glory: high standards of quality.

Fanny Farmer stores shared a look that was similar to that of Fanny May.

In 1992 the Archibald Candy Company acquired the brand "Fanny Farmer" and its 200 retail stores in the northeastern United States) as a sister brand to its own Fannie May candies (sold primarily in the Midwest and mid-Atlantic United States). Alpine Confections purchased both brands in 2004 after Archibald filed for bankruptcy, and merged Fanny Farmer into Fannie May. An errant path of merger and acquisitions, whereby the company became the largest chain of candy retailers in the country but without adequate financing and a viable corporate strategy, was blamed for the bankruptcy.

In its current iteration at 1-800-Flowers, the successor corporation sells Fanny May and Fanny Farmer products.

Fazer Blue

Karl Fazer Milk Chocolate, commonly known as Fazer Blue (Finnish: Fazerin Sininen), is a Finnish brand of milk chocolate owned by the Fazer corporation. The common name derives from the iconic blue color of its wrapper, which is a registered trademark of the Fazer corporation.

Fazer Blue is often measured to be the most sold confectionery in Finland. It also regularly polls as the most respected brand among Finns, particularly in polls conducted by the magazine Markkinointi & Mainonta and the polling organization Taloustutkimus OY.

The chocolate is widely considered a part of Finnish cultural heritage and cuisine. It owes its unique taste to the use of fresh milk in production, as opposed to powdered and condensed milk commonly used in chocolate manufacturing. Compared to other chocolates, Fazer Blue also has a relatively high milk concentration.

The chocolate is sold in various forms and amounts, ranging from 200 g (7.1 oz) slabs to boxes of confectionery pieces.

The chocolate was brought to market in 1922. According to the Fazer corporation, the Swiss recipe was a gift to the Fazer family from an Englishman. The recipe has remained unchanged since.

In 2001, the Fazer Blue color, Pantone C 280     , became Finland's first color trademark.
