Big D (peanuts)

Big D is a British brand of peanuts and snack food, introduced in 1967.

For many years in the 1970s, Britain's 'pub grub' was of a limited choice, and for many pubs, Big D peanuts, and crisps, was all that many pubs offered apart from alcoholic drinks.

The product claims to be Britain's best-loved pub snack. During the 1970s and 1980s, the product was notorious for its saucy promotional displays, whereby the packets of peanuts were tessellated in front of a picture of a scantily clad woman. The current promotional model is Rosie Jones.

The product is made by Trigon Snacks. This manufacturer also licenses the American brand Planters peanuts, they entered administration in 2013.

Over 4,000 tons of Bissli are produced each year in an array of shapes and flavors. Bissli is a crunchy snack that has been likened to fried pasta. The name is a combination of the Yiddish word Bis, meaning "bite", and the Hebrew word li, meaning "for me".

The most popular flavors are "Grill" and "Barbecue". Other flavors include onion, smoky, pizza, falafel, taco and hamburger. Each flavor is shaped differently: the pizza flavored snacks are shaped like squares, the onion flavor like small hoops, and the smoky flavor like small hollow tubes.

BN Biscuit

The BN Biscuit (or Biscuiterie Nantaise) is a French brand of biscuit, consisting of a filling, such as chocolate, sandwiched between two biscuits. It was launched in 1932, acquired by United Biscuits in 1998, and relaunched in September 2000. They are manufactured at the United Biscuits site in Nantes, France.

BNs are produced in two different shapes: circles and rounded squares. One side of the biscuit is decorated with one of four different faces. There are seven different flavours of the BN biscuit: chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, custard, raspberry, apricot and milk chocolate. They also come in a "Mini BN" variety.

A relaunch in September 1999 involved an advertising campaign with the name "BN BN" sung along to the tune of catchy "Mah Nà Mah Nà". Despite public petitions, BN Biscuits were not sold in the United Kingdom for a 10-year gap (2003 to 2013); however, they were still sold in many French and Afghan stores.

In 2013, BN returned to UK supermarkets with new packaging and logos, branded as "McVitie's BN". A new advert for the biscuit once again features "Mah Nà Mah Nà".

Brownie Brittle

Brownie Brittle is a food product produced by Sheila G. Brands.

Brownie Brittle was invented by Sheila G. Mains in Palm Beach, Florida, as a part of Sheila G Brands. Mains had been a commercial brownie baker since 1992, and eventually purchased the telephone number 1-800-Brownie. The first theme-park that ordered her brownies for sale in their park placed an order for 37,000 brownies. Eventually, she was baking and selling up to 1.6 million brownies a year. Among her clients, she was the producer for brownies at Disney World since 1994. The first incarnation of Brownie Brittle was called "Brownie Crisps," however they did not take off.

The idea for brownie brittle and the crisps came from the hardened drippings that would come off the pans used in her plant, and she developed a new type of process that would only produce crispy brownie edges. The company relaunched “Brownie Crisps” as Brownie Brittle and the renamed product was first sold in retail stores in April 2011. It was the first commercial brownie crisp company in the United States. In 2012 the company received $8 million in sales, and received the “Best New Snack Product” prize at the National Confectionery Sales Association awards ceremony. Also in 2012 Brownie Brittle was nominated as one of the most innovative new products at the Sweets And Snacks Expo and had sold more than two million bags of the product. Brownie Brittle also entered a partnership with Weinstein Co. to provide snacks for movie premiers, as well as their Golden Globe and Oscar events. The flavors of Brownie Brittle are Chocolate Chip, Toffee Crunch, Dark Chocolate Sea Salt, Traditional Walnut, Peanut Butter Chip, Salted Caramel, and Mint Chocolate Chip.

The company is a partner of Cookies For Kids’ Cancer, providing product and profits to the cause of solving childhood cancer.

Casa Sanchez Foods

Casa Sanchez is a Mexican-style salsa and tortilla chip company based in San Francisco, California. Beginning in the 1920s as a tortilla manufacturer in the Mission District of San Francisco, then evolving into a salsa company in the 1960s. Casa Sanchez has grown to become one of the leaders in the Mexican-style snacks market.

Roberto and Isabel Sanchez, from Acaponeta, Mexico, came to San Francisco in 1923. The family established one of the first mechanized tortilla factories in Northern California, then named R. Sanchez & Co. Tortillas were sold by the pound and wrapped in paper and string. They had three children. After Roberto's death, his children took over the business along with their mother when they were 9, 10, and 11 years old. As other tortilla factories popped up in San Francisco's Mission District, Robert and Martha Sanchez decided to manufacture the first fresh packaged salsa in the country.

Casa Sanchez is one of the highest selling salsas in California based on Neilson reports and are a San Francisco staple. The company’s logo is a drawing called "Jimmy the Cornman", inspired by Jimmy Sanchez, the youngest of the third generation. It depicts a man in a sombrero riding an ear of corn like a rocket, inspired by the landing of the first man on the moon. One of the company's slogans was "flavor out of this world".

Today, the 3rd and 4th generation family members are 16 and counting. They have developed a line of over a dozen Mexican food products and have expanded to the surrounding six states. Casa Sanchez has contributed over $100,000 to charity.

In 1999, Casa Sanchez attracted national attention, including that of Forbes magazine, when it unveiled its new marketing campaign: get a tattoo of "Jimmy the Cornman" and get free lunch for life. The promotion returned March, 2010.

Bugles

imageBugles

Bugles are a corn snack food originally from General Mills.

Bugles were developed by a food engineer, Joe Appelbaum, who also created Daisies. They have been available in the following flavors: Original, Nacho Cheese, Sour Cream & Onion, Ranch, Chile Cheese, Salsa, Smokin' BBQ, Churros, Southwest Ranch, Sweet and Salty Chocolate Peanut Butter, Sweet and Salty Caramel, Cheddar, Ketchup, Coriander, Hot Buffalo, Shrimp, Jalapeño Cheddar, and Hot & Spicy BBQ (Exclusively manufactured by Tom's). Bugles are so-named because of their "horn" or bugle shape.

Bugles were test-marketed in 1965 and introduced nationally in early 1966 as one of several new General Mills snacks, the others being the flower-shaped Daisies, tube-shaped Whistles, round Buttons, bowtie-shaped Bows, and wheel-shaped Pizza Spins, all of them long discontinued.

Bugles are fried in coconut oil, which contributes to their being significantly higher in saturated fat than similar snack foods, which are typically fried in soybean or other vegetable oils. Bugles contain no hydrogenated oils.

Ingredients of Original Bugles: degermed yellow corn meal, coconut oil, sugar, salt, baking soda, BHT. Ingredients for all variations of Bugles are listed on the General Mills website.

Bugles produced under the Tom's Snacks label no longer use coconut oil, but rather "vegetable oil (contains one or more of the following: canola oil, corn oil, or sunflower oil)."

As of November 2014, Bugles are sold as Bugles in the United States, Canada, China, Saudi Arabia and several more countries in Central America and the Caribbean.

Bugles were discontinued in Canada in early 2010 due to a decrease in demand but brought back in November 2011 due to renewed consumer demand. In the United Kingdom, Bugles were available in the early 2000s and manufactured by Golden Wonder. They were discontinued after several years, and brought back in 2016.

Charles Chips

Charles Chips is an American maker of snack foods, especially potato chips. It was known for home and office delivery of its products in distinctive tins.

The company was started in 1942 when Effie Musser sold her potato chips thru a distributor, who put them in distinctive tins, and named them Charles Chips after Charles Street in Baltimore. Effie and her husband soon took over the business and by 1946, moved production to a professional kitchen. They also started doing home delivery of their chips, and added pretzels and cookies.

In 1974, the business model of home delivery became more challenging. The company made a strategic move to develop retail packaging and market their products into grocery and convenience stores. In 1979, Charles Chips began distribution into the California market from the Calhoun, KY plant.

In 1984, Charles Chips completed construction of a state of the art pretzel and corn based snack production facility in Mountville, PA.

In 1990, the company had wholesale revenue in excess of $45 million. In 1991, the Mussers sold Charles Chips to a group of investors from Philadelphia. This new company went bankrupt 18 months later.

In 1993, Charles Chips was acquired by a popcorn company from Tampa, FL. They too went bankrupt about 18 months later.

In 1996, Hillside Snacks in Arlington, NJ acquired the Charles Chips trademark and started marketing Charles Chips under a different recipe.

In early 2011, the Scardino family bought the brand, with plans to bring back the original recipes and the tins. They now sell chips, pretzels, and cookies from their website.
