Oldham Brewery Ltd was an English brewery based in Oldham Lancashire. It was founded in 1868.

The Brewery (Albion Brewery, Coldhurst Street, Oldham) was built close to the town centre by the Stott family of architects.

The company brewed and sold OB branded beers:

There were numerous OB tied public houses in and around the Oldham area.

The brewery was sold to Boddington's in 1982 and brewing in Oldham stopped soon afterwards. Boddingtons itself was sold to Whitbread in the 1990s and the OB Brand disappeared from sale.

More recently, Robinson's Brewery bought the brand in 2006 and OB Bitter can be found on sale in some Robinson's pubs, and as a guest beer in some others.

Coordinates: 53°23′54″N 3°01′32″W / 53.3983°N 3.0255°W / 53.3983; -3.0255

Peerless Brewing Company is an independent microbrewery based in Birkenhead on the Wirral Peninsula, producing cask brewed beers by combining traditional techniques and fine ingredients with a modern tang.

The stainless-steel brew-plant is capable of brewing both ales and lagers. The Brewery brew about 3000 pints per batch. A gas-fired boiler provides the super-heated steam for the brewing process. The fermentation and conditioning tanks are all individually temperature controlled.

In early 2011 funding support from Wirral Council and help from Barclays Bank and the Manufacturing Advisory Service (MAS) provided £25,000 of capital which was invested in 220 new ale casks and cask washing equipment to support its production capacity and allow it to break into the national wholesale market.

The Brewery based in Pool Street, was the first brewery in Birkenhead since the closure of The Birkenhead Brewery, which operated from the mid 19th century until the late 1960s.

Following restructuring of the business, the brewery was renamed Peerless Brewing Company, with former Betwixt director Steve Briscoe taking over as Managing Director and Head Brewer joined by his wife Rose as a director. Two new employees were also recruited to strengthen brewing and distribution

Penpont Brewery

imagePenpont Brewery

Penpont Brewery is a brewery established by Joseph Thomson (at the time, one of the youngest brewers in the country) and Stephen Medlicott in 2008. It was built in converted farm buildings just outside Altarnun, up on the edge of Bodmin Moor, Cornwall. The beers are brewed using their own spring water near Penpont Water hence the name.

Penpont is a microbrewery which produces cask ales and bottled beers, using a mixture of modern and traditional British brewing techniques. They aim to use only high quality natural ingredients to produce the best tasting beers possible. Many of the beers have won Gold Awards.

The brewery’s Ginger Beer is one of their specialities using traditional methods same as for ales, but using ginger instead of hops. This has resulted in a clear rich ginger beer rather than the commonly cloudy alternatives. This beer was winner of best 'Speciality Beer' at the SIBA South West Region Beer Competition, 2011. Although unlike many breweries they do not own any public houses, they do work closely with their local establishment, The Rising Sun. The Rising Sun hosts the annual event to celebrate the official birthday of Penpont Brewery, held on the first Friday of November which has become a well attended local event.

The brewery is well established in the local counties of Cornwall and Devon. Recently they have started exporting to Canada and Russia. Production has trebled in volume since 2008 and further expansion in 2013 is planned to meet export demand.

In 2014 Penpont Brewery launched Firebrand Brewing Co as a craft beer co-brand and on June 30 2014 changed the company name to FP Brewing Ltd.

The brewery went into administration in November 2016.

Phipps NBC

Phipps Northampton Brewery Company Ltd has a long and varied history of brewing real ale and stout. It is based in Northampton, England.

The company began in the South Northamptonshire town of Towcester where founder Pickering Phipps started brewing in 1801. A second brewery was opened on Bridge Street, Northampton in 1817. All production was moved to Northampton in 1901 following a fire which destroyed the original brewery.

Trading as P. Phipps & Co. under the chairmanship of Pickering Phipps II (1836–1890), the company grew to become the largest brewer in the Midlands by the end of the 19th century. The Phipps family was prominent in Northampton in the 19th and early 20th century; both Pickering I and II were mayors and the latter an MP. An area of the town to the east of the racecourse was developed by the family and is known as Phippsville.

Other regional brewers absorbed by Phipps included, Ratliffe and Jeffery of Northampton in 1899, Hipwell and Co. of Olney in 1920, T.Mannings of Northampton in 1933 and Campbell Praed of Wellingborough in 1954. In 1957, P. Phipps merged with neighbours, Northampton Brewery Co. Ltd. At this point, the company had 1131 tied houses (pubs), 711 from Phipps and 420 from NBC.

In 1960, London based brewer Watney Mann launched a successful bid for the company. The new owner's keg bitter, Red Barrel, was soon brewed in Northampton alongside the local beers. By 1968, all traditional draught bitters were axed and the company renamed Watney Mann (Midland). The general spread of keg bitter in the late 1960s, and in particular Watney's treatment of Northamptonshire drinkers, were key spurs to the formation of the Campaign for Real Ale in 1971. Since Phipps NBC had dominated its trading area, Watney's removal of all traditional hand pumps from its Midland pub estate led to CAMRA describing Northamptonshire as a real ale desert.

At the beginning of the 1970s, a partnership was formed between Watney Mann and Danish brewer Carlsberg Group with the aim of rebuilding the Phipps Bridge Street Brewery site into a modern lager plant. Watney Mann ale and stout brewing ended on 26 May 1974, and most of the original brewery was demolished. Above ground the relatively modern office block was retained as part of Carlsberg's brewery, renamed Jacobsen House. Below ground the giant Foundry Street well under the old Albion Brewery stables (which Phipps had enlarged to form the principal water source for the site) was incorporated into the new lager brewery.

Phoenix Brewery

imagePhoenix Brewery

The Phoenix Brewery (also known as Finns Brewery) was a brewery run by the Finns family in Newbury, Berkshire, UK.

The brewery was founded in the early 19th century.

The brewer's house on Bartholemew Street was built in the 17th century and designed by James Clarke.

The main brewery buildings including the two-storey beerhouse and the three-storey brewhouse date from approximately 1842. The beerhouse features recessed sash windows and hipped roofing. The doorway to the building is wideand designed to be used for service access.

The top floor of the brewhouse contained a hoist, grain mill, water tanks and malt stores. The first floor held the engine room and the tuns while the ground floor housed the boiler, pumps, the well, and stores for barrels. The exterior of the brewhouse features a slated roof, dentil cornice and arched windows. The gables include crown glass louvres.

The complex became a Grade II listed building in November 1981.

In the 1923, the brewery closed and was taken over by Ushers of Trowbridge. The closure meant that there was no commercial brewery in West Berkshire for 71 years, until Butts Brewery opened in Great Shefford in 1994. Upon closure, the brewhouse was converted to be used for storage.

In the early 2000s, the brewhouse was used as a restaurant and bar. In 2004, however, the business was refused an entertainment licence due to objections from local police. In 2008, the main brewery building was opened as apartments.

Porterhouse Brewery

The Porterhouse Brewing Company is a chain of six bars in Bray and Dublin in Ireland, London and New York. It was founded in 1989 by Liam La Hart and Oliver Hughes.

Ireland has traditionally had a long history of brewing. At the beginning of the nineteenth century there were over two hundred breweries in the country, producing a wide range of Irish beer. This number dropped significantly by the twentieth century due to the dominance of a few large and famous breweries.

It was in this environment that, in 1989, Liam La Hart and Oliver Hughes bought a run-down building in Bray, County Wicklow, which became the first Porterhouse. In 1996, the Porterhouse brewpub was opened in the Temple Bar area of Dublin city centre. The group grew to open their next bar in Covent Garden London in 2000. They opened Porterhouse North in Glasnevin Dublin in 2004, and added another in Dublin city centre in 2004. In 2010 they were the only Irish Company to exhibit at The Shanghai World Expo, dubbed the Economic Olympics. In January 2011, they opened their premises on Pearl Street (Manhattan) in the Financial District of New York trading at Fraunces Tavern where George Washington bade farewell to his officers over two centuries ago.

With the exception of TSB, the draught beers are filtered, kegged and served under pressure.

The regular beers are:

In addition, there are a range of seasonal draught beers including:

In 2009, the brewery launched a range of bottle-conditioned versions of its beers, beginning with Hop Head and Plain Porter. These are packaged in 33cl bottles.

Bottling now Plain Porter, Wrasslers 4X, Oyster Stout, Porterhouse Red, Brain Blasta, Hersbrucker, Celebration Stout and Down 'n' Outz.

Rebellion Beer Company

imageRebellion Beer Company

The Rebellion Beer Company in Marlow Bottom, Buckinghamshire, England is a microbrewery that produces regular and seasonal beers. It uses the chalky water of the local Chiltern Hills, which has high levels of minerals and salts.

It was founded in 1993 by two former students of Sir William Borlase's Grammar School, and is now brewing around 125 barrels per week, serving over 200 pubs in a 30-mile radius of Marlow. In 1998 it bought Courage's former Pilot Brewery, and in 2003 acquired a pub lease, the Three Horseshoes in Marlow. The brewery hosts open evenings coupled with a tour every first Tuesday of each month for visitors and every second Tuesday of each month for the 2000 members of its beer club.

The Rebellion brewery produces three all-year ales; IPA (India Pale Ale; 3.7% ABV), 'Smuggler' (4.1% ABV), and 'Mutiny' (4.5% ABV). These names follow in a tradition of giving beers subversive or rebellious names. In addition, there are five seasonal ales such as 'Red' and 'Blonde' (which are also available to buy bottled year-round), as well as one-off monthly brews.

These beers are available in many local pubs, as well as from the Rebellion Brewery Shop. Rebellion beer is also sold in Waitrose. The company specializes in beer made with all-natural ingredients that are designed to be flavourful, as part of a marketing strategy to increase sales through supermarkets offering a greater selection of artisan beers.

The Rebellion Beer Company has won numerous awards from the Society of Independent Brewers at both a local and national level. Its Rebellion White won the supreme champion award in the wheat beer challenge of the Society of Independent Brewers in 2003.

Ringwood Brewery

Ringwood Brewery is a small brewery situated on the edge of the New Forest in Hampshire, England near the Dorset border. It produces mainly cask ales and some bottled beers.

The emblem for the brewery is a boar.

There are records from the early 19th century of four breweries, one owned by a banker named Stephen Tunks, that stood on the site of the present day Ringwood Brewery. Of the four, none survive today. The last to close was Carters on West Street, which closed in 1923.

In 1978, the Ringwood Brewery was established.

Ringwood Brewery founder, Peter Austin, is thought to be an influence on Britain's craft brewery rebirth in much the same way that Fritz Maytag of San Francisco's Anchor Brewing Company and Pierre Celis of Belgium's Hoegaarden Brewery were to their countries. However, Austin had a much more direct role in brewery development through his consulting business and equipment sales. Several notable American craft brewers use his equipment: Geary's Brewing, Shipyard, and Middle Ages Brewing Company to name a few.

On 12 July 2007, it was announced that Ringwood had been purchased by Marston's plc for £19.2 million. Marston's have stated that they plan to keep the brewery in operation and continue producing the full range of Ringwood beers.

In July 2013 Ringwood underwent a full re-brand, and the ABV of Old Thumper was reduced from 5.6% to 5.1%.

On 1 November 2015 Ringwood Best Bitter was rebranded as Ringwood Razorback.

Robinsons Brewery

imageFrederic Robinson Ltd

Robinsons Brewery is a family-run, regional brewery, founded in 1849 at the Unicorn Inn in , England.

The company owns more than 300 public houses, mostly in North West England alongside several managed houses.

William Robinson purchased the Unicorn Inn from Samuel Hole on 29 September 1838. His eldest son George brewed the first Robinsons Ale there in 1849.

In 1859, Frederic Robinson took over from George and bought a warehouse to the rear of the inn to expand brewing capacity. As a result, Robinsons ale became available at pubs around the area. To control the quality of ale sold, Frederic began to purchase public houses. From 1878 until his death in 1890, Frederic established twelve pubs which exclusively served his ale. This was the beginning of what was to become an estate of over 300 pubs across the North West of England and North Wales.

The Unicorn Brewery still rests on the foundations of the public house on Lower Hillgate in .

The brewery continues to be run by the fifth and sixth generations of the Robinson family. The company took over Hartley's Brewery in Ulverston in 1982, closing it and transferring the brewing of Hartley's beers to Stockport in 1991. Robinsons have acquired a number of other breweries over the years, including John Heginbotham, Stalybridge (1915); T. Schofield & Son, Ashton under Lyne (1926); Kays Atlas Brewery, Ardwick (1929) and Bell & Co, Stockport (1949).

The brewery supplies its own estate of just over 300 public houses, mostly in North West England, but including more than 30 in North Wales . It also sells to the free trade. In addition, the company provides casking, kegging and bottling services to other brewers from their site at Bredbury, a short distance from the main Unicorn Brewery.

The Unicorn Brewery is a traditional tower type and is one of the few such buildings still being used in its original capacity.

It is possible to tour the brewery at the Robinson's Brewery Visitors Centre in Stockport
