The Yankees–East 153rd Street Metro-North Railroad station serves Yankee Stadium and Highbridge, the surrounding area in the New York City borough of The Bronx. It opened on May 23, 2009. The station provides daily local service on the Hudson Line, where trains stop approximately every half-hour during rush hours and every hour all other times.
This station is used to serve New York Yankees baseball games and New York City FC soccer matches at Yankee Stadium.
For Hudson Line customers, all southbound trains before, during, and after the game stop at the station and all northbound Hudson Line trains at the end of and after the event stop at the station.
There is also special service branded "Yankee Clipper" for Yankee games. One extra train operates on thFor weekday afternoon games, one extra Hudson Line train departs Grand Central at 4:10 pm. For evening games, on the Harlem and New Haven lines, one inbound train operates making select stops. To weekend Yankee games, and from weekday evening or weekend Yankee games, two extra Hudson Line, two Harlem Line, and three New Haven Line trains operate. However, due to construction, Yankee Clipper trains on the Harlem Line are suspended..
Shuttle trains and Hudson Line trains also transports fans between the stadium and Grand Central Terminal, helping to reduce traffic on the subway lines used to connect to New Jersey Transit and Long Island Rail Road trains at Penn Station.
This project was promoted for several decades, and was included in the MTA's annual budget since the 1980s. Despite being part of the old Yankee Stadium renovation plan during the 1970s, plans for the station did not go ahead until the impetus from New Yankee Stadium. Metro-North's Hudson Line had active track near the site. Some connections needed to be altered to provide New Haven Line and Harlem Line service.
