West Hants, officially named the Municipality of the District of West Hants, is a district municipality in Hants County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Statistics Canada classifies the district municipality as a municipal district.
It occupies the western half of Hants County, running from the Minas Basin to the boundary with Halifax County, sharing this boundary with the Municipality of the District of East Hants.
West Hants entirely surrounds the incorporated Town of Windsor.
In the 2016 Census of Population conducted by Statistics Canada, the Municipality of the District of West Hants recorded a population of 15,368 living in 6,426 of its 7,175 total private dwellings, a change of 0.3% from its 2011 population of 15,324. With a land area of 1,244.09 km2 (480.35 sq mi), it had a population density of 12.4/km2 (32.0/sq mi) in 2016.
The poet George Elliot Clarke is from West Hants. His poem, "West Hants County" tells of the difficult condition of black workers in the gypsum mines at one time in its history.
