ViuTVsix is a free-to-air English language general entertainment television channel in Hong Kong operated by HK Television Entertainment (HKTVE), whose parent company, PCCW, also operates IPTV platform Now TV and media streaming service Viu.
The channel offers 17 hours of English programming a day including news and public affairs, lifestyle shows, overseas dramas and documentaries.
Unlike its sister channel ViuTV, ViuTVsix does not provide online streaming.
In 2015, HKTVE was granted a 12-year free-to-air television broadcast licence by the Hong Kong Government. Under the regulation of the licence, HKTVE must provide a 16-hour English channel by 31 March 2017. HKTVE was originally planned to launch a 17-hour English channel in the format of SDTV.
On 11 October 2016, HKTVE revealed the channel name ViuTVsix and announced 31 March 2017 as its actual launch date on their 2017 programme showcase, namely ViuTV 2017.
On 20 January 2017, ViuTVsix started its trial transmission with a still image announcing its formal launch on 31 March 2017 on DTT LCN 96 using the DTMB MFN multiplex that shared with its sister channel, ViuTV, and TVB Jade. Unlike the original plan, the channel had been broadcast in 1080i HDTV instead of 576i SDTV since the start of the trial transmission.
The channel aired ViuTVsix Showreel as signal test since the morning of 27 March 2017 until the actual launch.
