Summer Olympics appearances (overview)

Venezuela competed at the 1952 Summer Olympics held in Helsinki, Finland. 38 competitors, 36 men and 2 women, were selected by the Comité Olímpico Venezolano to take part in 37 events in 8 sports. For the first time, women took part in a Venezuelan representation in the Summer Olympics. These were the fencers Gerda Muller and Ursula Selle, both competing in individual foil. Women's were absent of Venezuelan representations in four occasions including next summer games held in Melbourne. The 1952 Games were considered a great step forward in sports in Venezuela since previous Venezuelan delegation was of only one athlete. Arnoldo Devonish won the nation's first ever Olympic medal and to date only Olympic Medallist in Athletics.

76 athletes of 22 countries compited in 4 events between July 27 to August 2 at the Helsinki Swimming Stadium, Finland. 1 athlete represented Venezuela at 1 event.

957 athletes from 57 countries competed in 33 events between July 20 to 27 at the Olympics Stadium, Helsinki, Finland. 7 athletes, all men, represented Venezuela in 11 events.

In sprint events (100, 200 and 400 metres), athletes were drawn in 12 Heats, qualifying the best 3 of every heat to Quarter and Semifinals, both qualifaying the best 2 of each heat. In middle distance events (800 and 1500 metres), athletes were drawn in Heats qualifying the best 3 or 4 of every heat to the Semifinals, where the best 3 or 6 of each heat advance. In 110 metres hurdles event athletles were drawn in 6 Heats qualifying the best 2 to the Semifinals, further qualifying the best 3 of every heat.

72 athletes competed in the 100m event, 71 in the 200m and 400m, 50 in the 800m, 52 in the 1500m and 30 in the 110m hurdles.

In jump events (long, high and triple jump) athletes enters in a Qualifying round where every athlete who achieve qualifying criteria (7.20 for long jump, 1.87 for high jump and 14.55 for triple jump) or 12 best performances including ties (long jump only) advance to the Finals. In the Final round athletes had 3 attempts to clear several ascending mark barries. In the javelin throw event athletes must achieve 64.00 in order to qualified to the Finals.
