Terre Haute (/ˌtɛrə ˈht/ TERR HOHT) is a city in and the county seat of Vigo County, Indiana, United States, near the state's western border with Illinois. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 60,785 and its metropolitan area had a population of 170,943.

Located along the Wabash River, Terre Haute is the self-proclaimed capital of the Wabash Valley. The city is home to several higher education institutions, including Indiana State University, Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, and Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Terre Haute is notable for being the home of Socialist Party of America leader and five-time presidential nominee, Eugene V. Debs and the Federal Correctional Complex.
