It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The municipality has a population of 2,213 (31 March 2016) and covers an area of 551.95 square kilometres (213.11 sq mi) of which 22.17 km2 (8.56 sq mi) is water.
