Macedonia, Illinois

Macedonia is a village in Hamilton and Franklin counties in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 63 at the 2010 census.

The Hamilton County portion of Macedonia is part of the Mount Vernon Micropolitan Statistical Area.

The village was named after the kingdom of Macedonia.

Macedonia is located at 38°03′14″N 88°42′11″W / 38.053809°N 88.703136°W / 38.053809; -88.703136. It is 15 miles (24 km) northeast of Benton, the Franklin County seat, and 12 miles (19 km) west of McLeansboro, the Hamilton County seat.

According to the 2010 census, Macedonia has a total area of 0.275 square miles (0.71 km2), of which 0.27 square miles (0.70 km2) (or 98.18%) is land and 0.005 square miles (0.01 km2) (or 1.82%) is water.

As of the census of 2000, there were 51 people, 17 households, and 14 families residing in the village. The population density was 188.4 people per square mile (72.9/km²). There were 24 housing units at an average density of 88.6 per square mile (34.3/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 100.00% White.

There were 17 households out of which 29.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 70.6% were married couples living together, 11.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 11.8% were non-families. 11.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.00 and the average family size was 3.27.
