Dawronoye

Dawronoye is a secular, leftist nationalist movement among the Assyrian people. Ideologically characterized by progressive ideas and including socialist elements, its founding roots can be traced to the late 1980s and the town of Midyat in Turkey.

There is a network of Dawronoye affiliated civil society organizations and parties across modern state boundaries in the Assyrian homeland region. In October 2004, the movement launched their own satellite television channel, Suroyo TV.

The movement is currently most prominent in Syria, with the Dawronoye affiliated Syriac Union Party (SUP), which is a major partner in the governing Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM) coalition of the Federation of Northern Syria - Rojava. The SUP operates the Syriac Military Council militia as well as the Sutoro police force to protect Assyrian communities in their settlement areas in northeast Syria.

Among the Dawronoye affiliated organizations in Iraq are the Beth Nahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athronoyo, HBA) and the Nineveh Plain Forces (NPF) militia.

An Assyrian diaspora umbrella organization since 2004 is the European Syriac Union.
