Coffeen is a small city in Montgomery County, Illinois, United States. The population was 685 at the 2010 census.
Coffeen was named after one of its founders, Gustavus Coffeen.
Coffeen is located at 39°5′25″N 89°23′34″W / 39.09028°N 89.39278°W (39.090213, -89.392690).
According to the 2010 census, Coffeen has a total area of 1.19 square miles (3.08 km2), all land.
As of the census of 2000, there were 709 people, 292 households, and 202 families residing in the city. The population density was 687.2 people per square mile (265.8/km²). There were 320 housing units at an average density of 310.1 per square mile (120.0/km²). The racial makeup of the city was 98.87% White, 0.28% Native American, 0.56% Asian, and 0.28% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.14% of the population.
There were 292 households out of which 31.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.1% were married couples living together, 9.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.5% were non-families. 28.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the city, the population was spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 26.5% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 20.0% who were 65 years of age or older.
