Cabeça Fundão is a settlement in the southern part of the island of Fogo, Cape Verde and sits on the foot of the mountain rim of Bordeira. It is situated 16 km east of the island capital São Filipe. Its 2010 population was 177. The village is located on the road linking Achada Furna and Chã das Caldeiras.
Agriculture is the main source of industry, tourism is the secondary source being on the road to the crater. Also in that location offers panoramic views of the Atlantic and the west of the island of Santiago.
Around 73,000 BC or 75,000 years ago, the area was formed as part of the interior of the earlier Fogo Mountain, the eastern half collapsed and with some erosion and lava flow over the centuries, though not as much as in the east and some small volcanoes, it would form the current landscape. From that point about a kilometer west of modern day Cabeça Fundão, it formed the line of where it collapsed, there, not much had collapsed in the west but a little more in the east along with the east of the crater which it was included.
One of two parts that started the 1951 eruption was about 1.5 kilometers northeast and flowed a few hundred meters northeast of the village and along Cova Matinho to the ocean.
Before the 2014-15 eruption, there were aluguer or yasi buses that depart from the island capital to Chã das Caldeiras at noon, it had a minibus stop which was rarely used, after the eruption, that line has been eliminated.
In the 2014-15 eruption, the lava flow on November 28 reached the road and then to Bordeira not far from the village, volcanic clouds went over the island especially on December 2 when it went over west of the area near the settlement at around 3,000 meters above sea level, also a few kilometers north, a part of the area saw lava and the elevation may rose a meter, it ruined the northern stretch of the road up to the center of Chã das Caldeiras, the road was rerouted to the edge of the volcanic crater for about 6-7 km, a part of it was in the area. Its residents were evacuated to other parts of the island including nearby Achada Furna and Fonte Aleixo. After the eruption, residents from nearby Chã das Caldeiras who lost their homes, some have moved to their temporary residence in the village while residents of the village returned home around mid 2015.
