This is now a sprawling suburb of Secunderabad. The Hyderabad airport has a single 0927 (east–west) runway. Bowenpally is just north of this unmistakable landmark. It is also the meeting point of two national highways: NH 7 (marked as "Nizamabad Road" on the map) and NH 9 (marked as "Pune Road" on the map). It serves as the gateway to the city from these two highways. Bowenpally is known for its peace and communal harmony with masjids, gurdwaras and temples galore. The community is richly diverse with people of various ethnicities.
In early days, Secunderabad was a small town with three major villages, namely Tirumalagiri, Bowenpally and Alwal. The name "Bowenpally" derives from Bhuvanapalli. It is named after the King of Chalukya, Trailokya Malla Bhuvanesvara, from the 10th century. The second biggest vegetable market in Hyderabad, Government-owned, The Market Yard, Bowenpally is located close by. Recently Reliance fresh, Spencers, More, Salex have put up their own retail outlets across various places in Bowenpally. AWHO colony area, Dubai Gate and Bapuji nagar area stand out in having various shops and ATM's. There are several national banks such as Union Bank of India, SBI, SBH, HDFC Bank, Bank of Baroda and ICICI Bank are also present here. There are few good restaurants which serves multi-cuisine, tandoori, Chinese, veg and non-veg food.
Hindus, Muslims and Christians mixed culture may find with peaceful harmony, well known Hindu temples Big Mosque (Badi Masjid) and Church.
Bowenpally has only one cinema theatre, Kalyan Theatre(Movie Max). This theatre hardly attracts people. However the Bowenpally is located at a juncture where access to any Cinema hall and shopping malls is easier. Tivoli cinema, Anand cinema are in a radius of 3 km from this place.
The most famous Paradise is just 4 km from this place.
On the Medchal Highway NH7 (also known as Nizamabad Road), there are many dhabas which serve delicious food. These dhabas are economical and serve authentic Punjabi food.
