Bordertown (Finnish: Sorjonen) is a Finnish crime drama television series. The series premiered in Finland on 16 October 2016, on Yle TV1. The series stars Ville Virtanen as Detective Inspector Kari Sorjonen. Other leading roles include Anu Sinisalo, Kristiina Halttu, Ilkka Villi, Matleena Kuusniemi, Olivia Ainali, Mikko Leppilampi, Janne Virtanen and Lenita Susi.
The Finnish name of series is Sorjonen, but its international name is Bordertown. Bordertown has been sold in Germany, France, Belgium and USA. Netflix acquired streaming rights to the series in the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Republic of Ireland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Eastern Europe, Russia and the Netherlands, with season 1 available for streaming on 31 March 2017. Over one million people (1/5 of Finland population) watched Bordertown's first episode.
Detective Inspector Kari Sorjonen (Ville Virtanen) is one of the most respected officers at the National Bureau of Investigation in Finland. When his wife barely survives brain cancer, Sorjonen decides to take his family to the small town Lappeenranta near the border to Russia, to live a quiet peaceful life. But life is not very peaceful on the border between two worlds. Murders, rapes, kidnappings, prostitution, drug trafficking and dog fighting torment Kari's life.
