Bentivoglio is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Bologna in the Italian region of Emilia-Romagna, located about 15 kilometres (9 mi) northeast of Bologna. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 4,593 and an area of 51.1 square kilometres (19.7 sq mi).
Bentivoglio borders the following municipalities: Argelato, Castel Maggiore, Granarolo dell'Emilia, Malalbergo, Minerbio, San Giorgio di Piano, San Pietro in Casale.
First settlements in Bentivoglio's territory date back to the Villanovan civilization, were in fact found some cremation tombs dating to 930 BC and a sixth century BC stele. Romans carried first measures for land reclamation, then, marshy. Through some found remains was also found that with the arrival of the Romans developed many rural installations in the territory. The central area of the territory in the Middle Ages was called "Poledrano Bridge", this name was due to the passage of foals on the Navile canal bridge.
