The 1973–74 Iraq FA First Division was the 19th and last season of what is now known as the League of the Institutes (the top division of Iraqi football from 1948 to 1974), and the first season of the tournament since 1948–49 that was open to teams from all around Iraq rather than just Baghdad. It began on 11 October 1973, with Aliyat Al-Shorta defeating Al-Tayaran 5–2 on the opening day. Al-Tayaran won the league title for the second time in a row and the fifth in their history.
