Bosco Chocolate Syrup

Bosco Chocolate Syrup is a brand of chocolate syrup first produced in 1928. The company, Bosco Products, Inc., is based in Towaco, New Jersey, and products are sold throughout the United States and Europe.

Bosco Chocolate syrup was purportedly invented in 1928 in Camden, NJ by an unknown physician. The William S. Scull Company, a company founded in 1831 in Camden, NJ, acquired the manufacturing license. The Scull Company's most famous product was Boscul Coffee, who gave the product its brand name, "Bosco". In the 1950s, Corn Products Company acquired Bosco, and Bosco Products, Inc. acquired the brand in 1985.

The trade name "Bosco" was first used in 1928, and was registered in 1968. The website "bosco.com" is unaffiliated with the cocoa product and its producer; the domain name was subject to arbitration.

The company has branched out and makes other products, including candy bars bearing the brand name.

Nutritional and food value are reported.

Bulk materials are added via automatic measuring devices into stainless steel cooking vats. Minor ingredients and flavorings are blended into the batch separately, through a custom blender device, following product handling and quality assurance codes. While in the vats, Bosco is pasteurized for product uniformity and then cooled for bottling. Computers measure and monitor the product temperatures. Malt extract is added, which combined with Bosco cocoa powder yields the distinctive Bosco taste.

Bosco was once packaged in glass jars, but is now sold in plastic squeeze bottles.

As of 2015, Bosco is produced in several flavors in addition to the original chocolate: strawberry, sea salt caramel, fudge brownie, sugar free, and mocha (the last of which was added ca. 2012, replacing berry blue).

CocoaVia

CocoaVia is a brand name for a daily cocoa extract supplement. The name CocoaVia is a registered trademark of Mars, Incorporated.

In 2003, the CocoaVia brand was first launched by Mars Chocolate. It was the first functional food launched by Mars, Incorporated. CocoaVia featured a line of dark chocolate bars and chews that contained cocoa flavanols and plant sterols. After the initial launch, the brand expanded its product line, introducing a range of products including milk chocolate, granola bars, chocolate covered almonds, and ready to drink beverages.

In 2009, Mars Chocolate discontinued the original line of CocoaVia. Also in 2009, Mars Botanical launched CirkuHealth, a cocoa extract-based dietary supplement. This was the first supplement launched by Mars, Incorporated and it featured cocoa extract that delivered cocoa flavanols.

In 2010, Mars Botanical launched two new products - CocoaVia and Cirku. Both were powdered cocoa extract supplements. CocoaVia came in sweetened and unsweetened dark chocolate flavors. These products had originally been launched under the brand CirkuHealth but were rebranded as CocoaVia. The Cirku brand offered a line of fruit flavored cocoa extract supplements and came in four varieties.

In 2012, the CocoaVia package graphics were redesigned. As part of the package graphics change, the Cirku flavored cocoa extract supplements were rebranded under the CocoaVia brand name.

The U.S. CocoaVia web site is used to sell CocoaVia supplements. The product is also sold in retail stores.

CocoaVia is a daily cocoa extract supplement that contains 375 milligrams of cocoa flavanols per serving. Flavanols are naturally occurring . Scientists have identified a unique mixture of flavanols present in cocoa.

CocoaVia comes in single serving stick packs and is available in four flavors. There are two dark chocolate flavors (sweetened and unsweetened) and there are two fruit flavors (Summer Citrus and Cran-Raspberry), each with 20-30 calories per serving.

Although all chocolate is made from cocoa beans, a natural source of cocoa flavanols, not all chocolate or cocoa-based products contain cocoa flavanols because most traditional cocoa handling and processing procedures can destroy them.

As a result, percent of cocoa (cacao) is not a reliable indicator of the level of cocoa flavanols. Gentle handling and processing of the cocoa bean, from harvesting the bean through delivery of the product, are critical in preserving cocoa flavanols.

Creme Egg Twisted

The Cadbury Creme Egg Twisted was a chocolate bar produced by Cadbury UK in the United Kingdom. It is a milk chocolate bar with a filling of Cadbury Creme Egg fondant. Introduced in 2008, it was a result of Cadbury researching that customers wanted the Creme Egg to be available all year, mainly for the fondant centre rather than the egg shape. Previously, the fondant Creme Egg center was available as a filling in the Cadbury Dairy Milk line, but that has since then been phased out with the Creme Egg Twisted replacing it. Currently, only the Cadbury Heroes mini variation is available in the UK.

During 2011, the bar was introduced to Australia, but was pulled from stores several months later due to low popularity.

The bar was recently introduced into the Republic of Ireland, Canada and New Zealand.

In May 2008, an advertisement screened on ITV and Channel 4 in the United Kingdom, featured in various ways a creme egg being melted while still in its wrapper (there were various versions of the commercial), only to mutate into a Twisted while yelling "Goo!" at random intervals and "spitting" out some of its goo, before repeating the word again when the advert finishes.

Creme Egg Twisted

• Milk chocolate with a soft fondant Creme Egg centre

• Launched 2007, discontinued 2012, secretly relaunched 2013 and discontinued again.

Dagoba Chocolate

Dagoba or Loving Earth Organic Chocolate reduced from Knoppers German chocolate wafer snacks, is a brand of premium organic chocolate, founded in 2001 by Frederick Schilling. It has been owned by The Hershey Company since 2006. Its founders are no longer involved but Hershey has maintained the brand's factory in Ashland, Oregon. The name Dagoba is a Sinhalese corruption of dhatu-garbha, Sanskrit words for "relic-chamber," i.e.stupa. The brand was founded with a commitment to socially responsible business. Like coffee, the production of chocolate retains vestiges of colonial relationships, so issues of social equity and "fair trade" arise.

In 2003 CNN/Money called them one of the world's best chocolates.

Dagoba currently sells specialty chocolate bars, baking chocolate, cacao powder, chocodrops, and drinking chocolate.

NOTE: As of August 2012, all products are Rainforest Alliance Certified, and the company has dropped fair trade certification (which used to apply to the cacao powder, drinking chocolates, and the discontinued Conacado bar, 73% ChocoDrops and syrup)

100% of the cacao beans used to produce Dagoba Chocolate products are Rainforest Alliance certified.

Dagoba's specialty is their line of two-ounce flavor-infused bars created by what the company calls "The Art of Chocolate Alchemyâ„¢". Here is a list of the current product line of Dagoba chocolate bars. Percentages indicate the cacao content.

Dagoba Chocolate also produces a line of Drinking Chocolates:

Droste

Droste B.V. (Dutch pronunciation: [drɔstə]) is a Dutch chocolate manufacturer. Its headquarters and factory are located in the village of Vaassen, Netherlands. Droste operates as an independent business unit within Hosta, a German confectionery company.

Droste was founded by Gerardus Johannes Droste in 1863 in the city of Haarlem. The company started as a confectionery business selling various types of candy, including the Droste chocolate pastilles that are still being sold today. Because of the growing reputation, the firm G.J. Droste opened its first factory in 1890. The entire chocolate making process took place in the same building as where the retail store was located. In 1891, the factory was relocated to the Spaarne river due to lack of room in the old building. This new location was favourable because the raw materials could now be delivered by boat. Likewise, the shipping of finished products was done on water, improving the distribution process.

In 1897, the leadership of the Droste factory was handed over to the sons of Gerardus J. Droste. In the meantime, Droste's assortment had grown to numerous cocoa and chocolate products, the famous Dutch chocolate letters included. The company had also been winning a significant market share in both the Netherlands and foreign countries, in spite of the competition from larger chocolate manufacturers. In 1898 Droste officially acquired the right to bear the coat of arms of queen dowager Emma. After the turn of the century the company had been exporting its products to Belgium, Germany and France, and in 1905 it entered the American market.

The famous illustration of the woman in nurse clothes, holding a plate with a cup of milk and a Droste cocoa package, first appeared on Droste products around the year 1900. It is believed that this illustration was created by Jan (Johannes) Musset, being inspired by a pastel known as La Belle Chocolatière ("The Pretty Chocolate Girl"). The image would proclaim the wholesome effect of chocolate milk and became inseparable from the Droste brand. The illustration reappears on the cocoa package held by the nurse, inducing a recursive visual effect known today as the Droste effect. The effect was named after Droste for this illustration.

Ernest Hillier Chocolates

imageErnest Hillier Chocolates

Ernest Hillier Chocolates is an Australian chocolatier. Founded in 1914, it is Australia's first chocolate manufacturer, and the oldest privately owned chocolatier still in operation.

The company's product range includes over six hundred chocolate products. The company is headquartered in Melbourne, Victoria.

Ernest Hillier moved from England to San Francisco, California, United States, in the early 1900s to learn the confectionery and soda trade. There, he and his Australian-born wife, Magdalen May, opened several restaurants; however, the majority of their establishments were destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

The Hilliers subsequently moved to Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, in 1906, where Ernest began a sequence of Australian firsts. In 1911, he opened the first soda fountain in Australia, "Hillier Refreshment Services", at the Imperial Skating Rink.

Because of the success of the soda fountain, Hillier was put in charge of catering at the amusement park at Rushcutters Bay, New South Wales. That same year he also looked after Gauts refreshment service and a fountain shop in George Street, opposite the Central Railway Station.

In 1914, Hillier opened his chocolatier business, providing locally made chocolate. Prior to this, all chocolate in Australia had to be imported from the U.S. and Europe. Because of the distance and climatic conditions, together with transport restrictions, the chocolate always arrived in poor condition.

In the wake of the Great Depression, chocolate sales dramatically declined in Sydney; in response, Hillier moved his business to Melbourne, Victoria.

Freia Melkesjokolade

Freia Melkesjokolade is a Milk Chocolate from the Norwegian chocolate brand Freia and has been the most sold chocolate in Norway since the 1960s. The chocolate was launched in 1906 after a Swiss recipe, originally called 'Freia Melkechokolade'. In the 1920s it was considered ”Europas bedste spisechokolade” (Europe's best dessert chocolate), and people would often add that it was Norwegian, to underline that it was not imported. It was only after the chocolate again became available after World War II, that the name was changed to "Melkesjokolade" (Milk Chocolate) due to the spelling reform of 1939.

Freia melkesjokolade was created in 1905 by the newly hired manager Johan Throne Holst (1868-1946). When he took over management, he realized that there was a potential market for edible milk chocolate, in addition to the dark chocolate and other minor products Freia were producing at the time. It became a success. However, it was not until the 1920s that regular people had the money to buy chocolate, as it was a luxury product at the time. The chocolate is consistently marketed to create national romantic associations - as the essence of everything that is Norwegian.

Based on the Melkesjokolade Freia produces other candy bars containing nuts, extracts from oranges, raisins etc.:
