Gimme More

imageGimme More

"Gimme More" is a song recorded by American singer Britney Spears for her fifth studio album, Blackout (2007). It was released on September 20, 2007 by Jive Records as the lead single from the album. The song was written by Nate "Danja" Hills, James "Jim Beanz" Washington, Keri Hilson and Marcella Araica, while production was handled by Jack Black and vocal production was handled by Washington and Hilson. "Gimme More" was recorded in 2006 during Spears's second pregnancy, and was one of the first solo productions by Danja. The song opens with an intro in which Spears says the phrase "It's Britney, bitch". Musically, "Gimme More" is a dance-pop and electropop song with breathy vocals. The track closes with a speak-sing outro by Danja.

The song peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming her fifth top ten hit and also her second highest-peaking single at the time. The song was released to positive reviews from critics, praising her vocals and the production. It also peaked at the top of the charts in Canada and Ireland, and reached top five positions in 14 countries. The accompanying music video premiered on October 5, 2007. It displayed Spears as a stripper and featured a break from Spears's highly choreographed music videos. The video received mixed to negative reviews from critics, who panned Spears's pole dancing as well as the lack of storyline. An alternate cut was leaked on July 18, 2011.

Spears performed "Gimme More" at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards, wearing a black, jeweled-encrusted bikini. The performance was panned by many critics, who commented extensively on her "singing", dancing and wardrobe, with one deeming it as "one of the worst to grace the MTV Awards". Chris Crocker uploaded a video in response to the criticism titled "Leave Britney Alone!", which made him an Internet celebrity and attracted attention from the media. Spears has also performed "Gimme More" at the Femme Fatale Tour (2011) and Britney: Piece of Me (2013). "Gimme More" has been covered and sampled by many artists, including Sia and Marié Digby.

The Girl You Lost to Cocaine

imageThe Girl You Lost to Cocaine

"The Girl You Lost to Cocaine" (sometimes titled "The Girl You Lost") is a song by Sia Furler.

Sia said the album "Some People Have Real Problems" was an easy album to write, except for, "The Girl You Lost" which took longer to pen than the other tracks. She explained: "It's like a bath. It's a big bath. I can sit down with my friends and play three chords or whatever or we'll hunt around and find the right three chords. Then they'll tell me what the song's about. Usually a sentence or a feeling will come or I can even just say to the person I'm with to tell me what it's about and give me a theme. Then eight minutes later, there it is. 'Academia' took eight minutes. 'Little Black Sandals' was five minutes. Then there are other songs that might take longer. 'The Girl You Lost to Cocaine' took a bit longer, but I don't remember why. I think I listened to it too much. It's different every time, but usually if it's a good one, it's like a bath."

In this moral fable the narrator finally walks away from her needy friend, as she was tired of the friend using her as a crutch.

Huw Jones of GigWise gave the song 7/10, saying; "With no room for pleasantries or compromises, her latest release is strong, confident, infectiously melodic and immensely hummable romp through the highs and lows of Sia’s unique character and up beat independence. And as always Sia’s vocal brings with it a much needed and long overdue burst of sunshine that will warm even the stoniest of hearts".

A staff writer of The Mirror said; "With its pumping brass arrangement and over-expressive, too-keen-to-please vocals, this is the sort of declamatory record more suited to the US market than the British one. File under the bull-in-a-china-shop approach to pop."

Flak of Behind the Hype, as part of the album review said, "I’m not sure if "The Girl You Lost to Cocaine" is literal in its meaning, but the song talks about her fail whale of a lover, who she is about to leave. Being fed up with someone in a relationship is something I’ve seen happen time and time again, but to leave that person is easier said than done, so this song felt good to me, on principle alone."

Amber Henson of The Red Alert, as a part of the album review said, " “The Girl You Lost to Cocaine” is intensely addictive and heartfelt. “No, I don’t need drama” she effusively and loudly sings over the chorus is a refreshing sentiment in the current music industry."

Golden (Travie McCoy song)

imageGolden (Travie McCoy song)

"Golden" is a song by American singer and rapper Travie McCoy featuring Australian recording artist Sia. It was released digitally as a single on June 15, 2015 through Fueled by Ramen.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, McCoy said, "I think 'Golden' is a cog in the machine that is the next album. Every song has its own shape and sound in order to make the machine move and work the way I want it to."

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly online, McCoy said he met Sia four years ago, and he had been a fan of hers for years. "When we finally [met] we were totally kindred spirits. We had both gone through a lot and she became a sister to me very quickly. [...] This was probably the third of about three or four that we've recorded together. Who knows if the others will ever be heard, but they all mean so much to me. She actually wrote a song for me when I was going through some really hard times that I will always hold dear to my heart. She's an angel with the voice of one." Speaking on Entertainment Tonight, McCoy said, "It's like second nature working with Sia. We have this brotherly-sisterly vibe going on. Once I heard the hook, I kinda knew where I wanted to go lyrically and I wrote it in about 45 minutes... I think a lot of people can relate to having those tinglies in their stomach about that special somebody."

The video for "Golden" premiered on YouTube on June 14, 2015 and is inspired by an iconic traffic shot in Jean-Luc Godard's cult classic 1967 film Week End. The video is a continuous looping shot of Travie leaving his car on a desert road and observing the eccentric passengers in the vehicles in front of him.

"The Greatest" is a song recorded by Australian recording artist Sia for the deluxe edition of her seventh studio album, This Is Acting (2016). Being made available for digital consumption as the record's third single on September 5th, 2016 through Monkey Puzzle and RCA Records, "The Greatest" features the vocal collaboration of American rapper Kendrick Lamar. An accompanying music video for the single was filmed by Sia and Daniel Askill, and portrays American dancer Maddie Ziegler among 48 others. Commercially, "The Greatest" reached the top five in several countries and was awarded with certifications in various territories.

Billboard editor Gil Kaufman described "The Greatest" as a "uplifting, poppy song with a subtle island vibe."

The song is written in the key of C minor with a cut common time tempo of 96 beats per minute. The vocals span from Bâ™3 to Eâ™5 in the song.

Jessica Goodman from Entertainment Weekly found the chorus "massive and catchy." Once the critics had picked up on the song's connection with the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, Spencer Kornhaber of The Atlantic wrote:
