Climate of Rome


Rome and its metropolitan area has a Mediterranean climate (Köppen climate classification: Csa), with cool winters and warm to hot summers. According to Troll-Paffen climate classification, Rome has a warm-temperate subtropical climate (Warmgemäßigt-subtropisches Zonenklima). According to Siegmund/Frankenberg climate classification, Rome has a subtropical climate.

Rome has one of the most optimal number of hours of daylight in Europe. Days in winter are not as short as in the northern part of the continent, the average hours of daylight in December, January and February is 10 hours (for comparison: London or Moscow or Warsaw – about 8 hours).

Sunshine duration is about 2,500 hours per year, from 111 – average 3.6 hours of sunshine per day in December to 332 – average 10.7 hours of sunshine per day in July. This is the middling value for the southern half of Europe because in this part of the continent, sunshine duration varies from about 2,000 to about 3,000 hours per year. However, this is 60% larger value than in northern half of Europe, where sunshine duration is around 1500 hours per year. In winter Rome has about three times more sun duration than in the northern half of Europe.

The climate of Seoul features a humid continental with dry winter, called "Dwa" in the Köppen climate classification. Seoul is classed as having a temperate climate with four distinct seasons, but temperature differences between the hottest part of summer and the depths of winter are extreme. In summer the influence of the North Pacific high-pressure system brings hot, humid weather with temperatures soaring as high as 35 °C (95 °F) on occasion. In winter the city is topographically influenced by expanding Siberian High-pressure zones and prevailing west winds, temperatures dropping as low as -20 °C (-4 °F). The bitterly cold days tend to come in three-day cycles regulated by rising and falling pressure systems, during winter snowfall can cause frosty weather in the city. The most pleasant seasons, for most people in the city are spring and autumn, when azure blue skies and comfortable temperatures are regular. Most of Seoul's precipitation falls in the summer monsoon period between June and September, as a part of East Asian monsoon season.

Seoul has a wet and very humid climate during the summer season, with cold and dry weather during the winter season. Spring (although windy) and autumn are mild but are short in duration. These seasons are considered the best time to visit Seoul.

As a temperate climate, Seoul has winter, spring, summer and autumn seasons. The monsoon season and typhoons also occurs in the summer season.

Geography of Toronto


The geography of the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, covers an area of 630 km2 (243 sq mi) and is bounded by Lake Ontario to the south; Etobicoke Creek, Eglinton Avenue, and Highway 427 to the west; Steeles Avenue to the north; and the Rouge River and the Scarborough–Pickering Townline to the east. In addition to Etobicoke Creek and the Rouge River, the city is trisected by two minor rivers and their tributaries, the Humber River in the west end and the Don River east of downtown. Both flow southward to Lake Ontario at Humber Bay and Toronto Harbour respectively, which are part of the longer Waterfront.

The concentration and protection of Toronto's ravines allows for large tracts of densely forested valleys with recreational trails within the city. Approximately 26–28% of Toronto is covered with over 10 million trees, a fairly high percentage within a large city in North America and there are ambitious proposals to double the coverage.

The shoreline of the former Lake Iroquois is a major west−east geological feature, which was formed at the end of the last glacial period. In the west end, Davenport Road follows the ancient shoreline with the steps to Casa Loma rising above and downtown skyscrapers clearly visible to the southeast. It merges with the current Lake Ontario shoreline at the Scarborough Bluffs promontory.

Toronto's immediate neighbours are Mississauga and Brampton within the Regional Municipality of Peel, Vaughan and Markham within the Regional Municipality of York, and Pickering within the Regional Municipality of Durham. The Greater Toronto Area (GTA) includes the regional municipalities of Halton, Peel, York and Durham.

Climate of Valencia


Valencia and its metropolitan area have a hot-summer Mediterranean climate (Köppen climate classification: Csa) with very mild winters and long warm to hot summers. According to Troll-Paffen climate classification, Valencia has a warm-temperate subtropical climate (Warmgemäßigt-subtropisches Zonenklima) and according to Siegmund/Frankenberg climate classification, Valencia has subtropical climate.

Its average annual temperature is 23.0 °C (73.4 °F) during the day and 13.8 °C (56.8 °F) at night. In the coldest month – January, typically the temperature ranges from 14 to 20 °C (57 to 68 °F) during the day and 4 to 12 °C (39 to 54 °F) at night. In the warmest month – August, the typically temperature ranges from 28 to 34 °C (82 to 93 °F) during the day and about 22 °C (72 °F) at night. Large fluctuations in temperature are rare.

Winters in Valencia are very mild. December, January and February are the coldest months, with average temperatures around 17 °C (63 °F) during the day and 8 °C (46 °F) at night. From a few to a dozen days in the winter, the temperature exceeds 20 °C (68 °F). Because of the very mild temperatures in winter, most of the vegetation remains green throughout the year.

March is a transitional month, the temperature often exceeding 20 °C (68 °F), with average temperature of around 20 °C (68 °F) during the day and 10 °C (50 °F) at night.

Summers in Valencia area are long and warm to hot (in the middle of summer). Generally the summer season lasts about eight months, from April to November. Regular temperatures above 20 °C (68 °F) begin as early as April, although in this month the sea temperature is still cool: about 15–16 °C (59–61 °F). The summer season ends in November, in this month sometimes occurring days with temperatures below 20 °C (68 °F). The sea temperature in November remains mild - about 18 °C (64 °F).

July and August are the warmest months, with average temperatures around 29 °C (84 °F) during the day and 22 °C (72 °F) at night. In June and September the average temperature is around 26–28 °C (79–82 °F) during the day and 18–20 °C (64–68 °F) at night. In May and October the average temperature is around 24 °C (75 °F) during the day and 15–16 °C (59–61 °F) at night and in April and November the average temperature is around 20–21 °C (68–70 °F) during the day and 12 °C (54 °F) at night.

Sunshine duration is 2,660 hours per year, from 150 - average about 5 hours of sunshine at day in December to 314 - average above 10 hours of sunshine at day in July. This is a bit above average for the southern half of Europe because in this part of the continent, sunshine duration varies from about 2,000 to about 3,000 hours per year. However, this is a 70% larger value than in the northern half of Europe, where sunshine duration is around 1500 hours per year. In winter Valencia has about three times more sun duration than in the northern half of Europe.

Climate of Vancouver


The climate of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada is a moderate oceanic climate (Köppen climate classification Cfb) that borders on a warm-summer Mediterranean climate Csb. With summer months that are typically dry, often resulting in moderate drought conditions, usually in July and August. In contrast, the rest of the year is rainy, especially between October and March.

Like the rest of the British Columbia Coast, the city is tempered by the North Pacific Current, which has its origins in the milder Kuroshio Current and is also to an extent, sheltered by the mountains of Vancouver Island, to the west.

The climatology of Vancouver applies to the entire Greater Vancouver region and not just to the City of Vancouver itself. While Vancouver's coastal location serves to moderate its temperatures, sea breezes and mountainous terrain make Greater Vancouver a region of microclimates, with local variations in weather sometimes being more exaggerated than those experienced in other coastal areas.

Predicting precipitation in the Greater Vancouver area is particularly complex. It is a rule of thumb that for every rise of 100 m (330 ft) in elevation, there is an additional 100 mm (3.9 in) (1.2 in (30 mm) per 100 ft (30 m)) of precipitation, so places such as the District of North Vancouver on the North Shore Mountains get more rain. Snow is problematic for meteorologists to predict due to temperatures remaining close to freezing during snow events.

Geography and climate of Winnipeg


Winnipeg lies at the bottom of the Red River Valley, a low-lying flood plain with an extremely flat topography. This valley was formed by the ancient glacial Lake Agassiz which has rich deposits of black soil. Winnipeg is on the eastern edge of the Canadian Prairies in Western Canada; it is known as the 'Gateway to the West'. It is relatively close to many large Canadian Shield lakes and parks, as well as Lake Winnipeg (the Earth's 11th largest freshwater lake). Winnipeg is bordered by tallgrass prairie to the west and south and the aspen parkland to the northeast.

Winnipeg is fairly isolated in that the closest city with equal or greater population is Minneapolis–Saint Paul, Minnesota (metro population of 3,317,308), which is 735 km (457 miles) southeast from the city. According to the Census geographic units of Canada, the city has a total area of 464.01 km2 (179.16 sq mi) and an elevation of 240 m (786 ft).

The city has a humid continental climate with wide temperature contrasts between winter and summer, and greater precipitation in summer. Mean January temperature is −16.4 °C (2.5 °F), and mean July temperature is 19.7 °C (67.5 °F). Average annual precipitation is 521.1 mm (20.52 in); snow falls on 53 days and lies on 132 days in an average year.

Winnipeg has three major rivers: the Red River, the Assiniboine River, and the Seine River. The Red River is a Canadian heritage river. Because of Winnipeg's extremely flat topography and substantial snowfall, Winnipeg is subject to severe flooding. The Red River reached its greatest flood height in 1826. The Red River Floodway protects the city from flooding.
