Bacolod Chicken Inasal

imageBacolod Chicken Inasal Restaurant

Bacolod Chicken Inasal is a Philippine restaurant chain primarily serving inasal, a kind of roast chicken served on skewers that originated in the Visayas. It is also a sponsor for a number of television sitcoms on ABS-CBN.

The chain was established in 1993 by the Tanalgo siblings; Rose, Bing and JM. It began as a small take-out stall in Mandaluyong where customers purchased their food then ate them at their convenience. A year later, a full-fledged store was built to allow patrons to sit and dine. Soon, their specialties gained attention among the denizens of Metro Manila and, five years after it was founded, a second outlet was built in Makati.

The mascot of the chain is a caricature boy named Toto. His name, according to the website, is a Visayan customary way in which men are sometimes called. On ads or banners, the character talks in Ilonggo or Hiligaynon (subtitled in Tagalog).

Portraits of local actress Judy Ann Santos, holding an inasal, are often seen on ads that promote the restaurant chain. She was selected to be an endorser of the business because they were inspired by a dish called Ysabella Chicken that appeared in a TV sitcom called Ysabella which stars Santos. Despite this, Rose Tanalgo said the recipe for their chicken is rather different from what was seen in the TV series.

Also, a cartoon version of Betty la fea is used.

Burger Machine

Burger Machine Holdings Corporation, more commonly known as Burger Machine, is one of the notable fastfood companies in the Philippines. It is a sub-company of the Gilmore Food Corporation. Unlike Jollibee and other burger chains, Burger Machine has always been retailing in outdoor stands instead of shops.

It was created in 1981 by Ms. Fe Esperanza S. Rodriguez and a sister who both planned to turn two old small buses into mobile stores, an idea they adapted from America. It was their fondness for hamburgers that inspired them to make a business that would serve for the masses. The stores were then opened near two gas stations in Quezon City. They all began with a capital of P40,000 with nearly two dozen employees working continuously. This non-stop service earned Burger Machine the nickname of "the burger that never sleeps."

A year later, a third store was opened. The company was nationally recognized.

In June 1988, the company established six food plazas in areas such as Timog, Cubao, Tandang Sora, Makati, Padre Faura and Marikina.

In 1990, the Corporate Office in EDSA started and was called EDSA Business Unit. It was also in this year when the Food and Nutrition Research Institute of the Department of Science and Technology confirmed their burgers as “source of the most nutrients in terms of peso value compared to other leading hamburger chains.”

Through the years, Burger Machine launched dozens of branches including stalls and full-scale fast food restaurants. But during the Asian Financial Crisis of the 90's, the company saw more struggles and was forced to close down several branches and restaurants. Burger Machine is now back to its roots operation which is 24/7 burger stands for the masses.

The company is also dubbed "the National Burger Stand of the Philippines." As of 2011, Burger Machine has 1,000+ outlets across the country.

One distinctive character associated with the company is the dwarf which appears on every outlet. For a number of years it had been unnamed. Later in 1988, it was given one, Burger Bart through a name contest.

Graphic designer/visual communicator Zeus Paredes coined the name "BURGER MACHINE" and designed the original logo and graphics on the mobile stores.

The business was widely advertised on television in the mid-1990s. Among those who helped promote it include the Philippines' late master rapper Francis Magalona and iconic band Eraserheads.

Chooks-to-Go

imageChooks-to-Go

Chooks-to-Go is a chain of stores owned by Bounty Agro Ventures, Inc. (BAVI), a privately owned company operating in the Philippines. It offers roast chicken and processed meats for off-premises consumption, and is the largest roasted chicken retail business in the country.

Chooks-to-Go currently has close to a thousand stores. The majority of the outlets are in suburban areas and small towns, enabling access to a larger part of the population. The product mix is often adjusted to suit local preference.

The brand has 23 processing plants across the country, allowing logistical and processing flexibility to match daily orders. A cold-chain system delivers fresh products every day. Food safety is constantly monitored, with HACCP compliance underway.

Chooks-to-Go is an official partner of the Philippines men's national basketball team or Gilas Pilipinas since 2016.

Chooks-to-Go was launched by BAVI in 2009. Its name combines "chooks" (the Australian casual term for chicken) with "to-go" to indicate its take-out-only format. To differentiate its products from those of competitors, it is marketed as the only roast chicken that can be enjoyed without sauce (masarap kahit walang sauce). This caters both to the Filipinos' love for family gatherings, and the growing market segment of busy consumers with limited time for food preparation.

Since its launch, sales have stabilized to near industry-level average volume per store. To reach out to more customers, the company opened more outlets. By the end of 2011, Chooks-to-Go had more stores than the next five most-numerous roast chicken chains combined. In 2012, it was recognized as the top chicken-focused restaurant chain in the country.

To keep up with the growth, the brand expanded its broiler and breeder operations. Currently, around 200,000 birds are processed daily, with about half of this set aside for Chooks-to-Go outlets. The company targets an annual production of around 100 million birds by the end of 2013.

In an awarding ceremony held last December 11, 2013 entitled “Volume VIII Second Certificate Superbrands Accreditation and Awarding of Certificate," Chooks-to-Go was the singular roasted chicken brand selected to carry the Superbrands Awards Seal for 2013 to 2015.

Chooks-to-Go offers oven-roasted chicken in sweet and pepper roast flavors. Fried Chooks is chicken that is fried after roasting, creating a deep flavoured taste. Other products are Juicy Liempo and Chix 22. Chilled products include Chicken Licken hotdogs, Chicken Nuggets, Spicy Necks and Bounty Fresh Valentino Chicken. Fresh Chicken, Chicken Cut-Ups and Marinado are available under the Chooksie's brand.

Go Nuts Donuts

imageGo Nuts Donuts

Go Nuts Donuts is a doughnut-shop chain based in the Philippines.

The Trillana-De Ocampo families of the Philippines engaged in a doughnut business to attempt to hold a franchise of the American-based Krispy Kreme. They, however, were denied. Thus, they decided put up their own doughnut company. After eighteen months of planning, Go Nuts Donuts was created.

On their first day of business, a total 700 doughnuts were sold. As of 2009, the chain sells an average of 20,000 doughnuts per day. At one time it sold as many as 27,000. Wanting to promote their doughnuts outside the country, they started delivering through DHL or FedEx.

Although sales were up permitting them to increase their prices, they retained their usual retailing prices. Company president Michael Trillana stated:

Trillana considers the business a gift from his son who died just a couple of days before their first store opened.

The doughnuts of Go Nuts Donuts have been made almost in a similar style as those from Krispy Kreme. They're referred to as less sweet, but larger and last a longer period. The chain has established a franchise store in Kuwait, giving the latter a run for its money. It also has plans to open more in Malaysia, China, and Australia.

In 2012, 40% of Go Nuts Donuts was bought by IP Ventures Retail Group. This has allowed the chain to start selling Highlands Coffee in their branches as IPVI Retail also own the local franchise for it.

Three types of donuts are served:

The chain even serves pizza (doughnut-shaped ones which make them unique from those of other establishments). Coffee, as well as non-coffee beverages, is also served hot or cold.
