Jollibee

imageJollibee Foods Corporation

Jollibee Foods Corporation (also called JFC, and popularly known as Jollibee) is a Filipino multinational chain of fast food restaurants headquartered in Pasig, Philippines. JFC is the owner of the popular fast food brand Jollibee, dubbed as Asia's answer to McDonald's in the fast food burger business.

With the success of its flagship brand, JFC acquired some of its competitors in the fast food business in the Philippines and abroad such as Chowking, Greenwich Pizza, Red Ribbon, Mang Inasal, and Burger King Philippines. As of January 2015, JFC had a total of more than 3,000 stores worldwide, with system-wide retail sales totaling 82.1 billion pesos for the fiscal year 2011.

In 1975, Tony Tan Caktiong and his family opened a Magnolia Ice Cream parlor in Cubao, Quezon City. In 1978, he and his siblings engaged the services of a management consultant, Manuel C. Lumba, who shifted the business focus from ice cream to hot dogs after his studies showed a much larger market waiting to be served. Lumba was Tan's last business and management mentor.

Jollibee experienced rapid growth. It was able to withstand the entry of McDonald's in the Philippines in 1981 by focusing on the specific tastes of the Filipino market, which differed from the American fast food company.

The chain opened successful milestone stores in the following years: its 100th branch in Davao in 1991; its 200th store in Malolos, Bulacan in 1996; its 300th store in Balagtas, Bulacan in 1998; its 400th store in Intramuros, Manila in 2001; its 500th store in Basilan in 2004; its 600th store in Aparri in 2007; its 700th store in Harrison Road, Baguio City in 2010; its 800th store in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon on October 18, 2013; and its 900th store in Palo, Leyte on September 30, 2015.

Krispy Kreme

imageKrispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Inc. is an American global doughnut company and coffeehouse chain based in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Krispy Kreme is to become a privately held company owned by JAB Beech, itself a private German investment firm. Krispy Kreme founder Vernon Rudolph bought a yeast-raised recipe from a New Orleans chef and, in 1937, rented a building in what is now historic Old Salem in Winston-Salem, and began selling to local grocery stores.

In the United States, Krispy Kreme's products are sold via their own outlets as well as through grocery, convenience stores and supermarkets. They are also available in other countries through various channels.

The company's growth was steady prior to its initial public offering but profits have decreased in recent quarters.

On February 24, 2015, Krispy Kreme opened its 1,000th shop in Kansas City, Kansas.

In 1933, eighteen-year-old Vernon Rudolph began working for his uncle, Ishmael Armstrong, who owned a small general store in Paducah, Kentucky that sold a wide variety of goods, including its very popular doughnuts. While the exact origin of the doughnut recipe remains partially a mystery, it is believed that Ishmael Armstrong was inspired by an Ohio River barge cook named Joseph LeBeouf who was famous for his light and fluffy doughnuts.

The store struggled during the Great Depression, so in 1934, Vernon and Ishmael decided to move to the larger city of Nashville, Tennessee where they hoped business would be better. The uncle and nephew focused solely on selling their doughnuts and opened "The Krispy Kreme Doughnut Company" in a rented store on Gallatin Road. The shop did so well that Vernon's father, Plumie, also left Kentucky and moved to Nashville to help sell doughnuts.

In 1937, Vernon Rudolph opened his own store, deciding on Winston-Salem, North Carolina for the location when he learned that his favorite cigarette company, Camel Cigarettes, was headquartered in the small North Carolina city. Rudolph primarily sold to convenience stores; however, he also sold hot doughnuts to individual customers who came during production time between midnight and 4 am. The first store in North Carolina was located in a rented building on South Main Street in Winston-Salem in what is now called historic Old Salem. The Krispy Kreme logo was designed by Benny Dinkins, a local architect. The first Krispy Kreme bakery outside the South opened in Akron, Ohio, in 1939.

Lafleur Restaurants

imageLafleur Restaurants

Lafleur Restaurants (in French, Resto Lafleur) is a chain of family-owned fast food restaurants located in the greater Montreal area.

The business began in 1951 on Avenue Lafleur in LaSalle, Quebec (in the Montreal area). It was set up by Denis Vinet who had spent the previous ten years selling hot dogs and french fries from a van in LaSalle. The business gradually grew into a chain that is spread in and around Montreal.

Lafleur is widely known for serving the basic staples of Québécois fast food, such as hot dogs, hamburgers, french fries and poutine. It is particularly known for its hot dog dishes. Among the hot dog varieties available is the Michigan hot dog that might be served with processed cheese and/or onions, the tofu dog, the Supreme (with processed cheese and bacon), and the traditional steamed Montreal hot dog which contains onions, sweet relish, mustard, and coleslaw, known as an "all-dress steamé".

As of 2008, Lafleur has added a vegetarian burger to its menu.

Lafleur's french fries ("frites") are fresh cut russet potatoes. They are cut from non-mechanized hand-operated potato presses which are often installed to be visible by customers.

The chain also serves breakfast which includes simple meals such as toast and coffee or more elaborate ones that include crêpes, French toast, hash browns, sausages, bacon, eggs, and baked beans.
