Zainsky District (Russian: Заи́нский райо́н; Tatar: Cyrillic Зәй районы, Latin Zəy rayonı) is an administrative and municipal district (raion), one of the forty-three in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is located in the eastern central portion of the republic. The area of the district is 1,861.6 square kilometers (718.8 sq mi). Its administrative center is the town of Zainsk (which is not administratively a part of the district). Population: 15,978 (2010 Census); 16,103 (2002 Census);16,002 (1989 Census).
Within the framework of administrative divisions, Zainsky District is one of the forty-three in the republic. The town of Zainsk serves as its administrative center, despite being incorporated separately as a town of republic significance—an administrative unit with the status equal to that of the districts (and which, in addition to Zainsk, also includes one rural locality).
As a municipal division, the district is incorporated as Zainsky Municipal District, with the town of republic significance of Zainsk being incorporated within it as Zainsk Urban Settlement.
