Yuan Shanshan (Chinese: 袁姗姗; pinyin: Yuán Shānshān; born 22 February 1987) also known as Mabel Yuan is a Chinese actress and singer.
She is noted for her roles as Empress Xiaoshengxian and Ren Yingying in the historical television series Palace II (2012) and Swordsman (2013) respectively.
Yuan Shanshan was born in a wealthy and highly educated family, to civil servants parents, in Xiangcheng District of Xiangyang city, Hubei province on February 22, 1987.
At the age of 6, she started to play the violin. In 2005, she attended Beijing Film Academy from which she graduated in 2009.
Yuan Shanshan first came to the attention of the audience when she played a supporting role as Ru Bing in Lee Wai-chu's historical television series Palace, by Liu Xuehua's recommendation, then she signed with Yuzheng Studio (于正工作室). She starred as Empress Xiaoshengxian in Li Huizhu's Palace II, a historical television series co-starring with Mickey He, Du Chun, Shu Chang, Zhang Jia'ni, Sun Feifei and Hai Lu, which was one of the most watched ones in mainland China in 2013.
In 2013, she starred as Ren Yingying, reuniting her with co-star Wallace Huo, who played Linghu Chong, in Yu Zheng's Swordsman, which adapted from Jin Yong's wuxia novel The Smiling, Proud Wanderer.
