Winneconne is a town in Winnebago County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 2,350 at the 2010 census. The Village of Winneconne is located within the town. The unincorporated community of Butte des Morts is also located in the town.
The name is an Indian word meaning "place of skulls", which came from a battle here in which the Sauks and Foxes fought against the French, Menominees and Chippewas.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 33.7 square miles (87.2 km2), of which 21.5 square miles (55.8 km2) is land and 12.1 square miles (31.4 km2), or 36.02%, is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 2,145 people, 838 households, and 666 families residing in the town. The population density was 97.6 people per square mile (37.7/km²). There were 1,020 housing units at an average density of 46.4 per square mile (17.9/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 99.44% White, 0.23% Native American, 0.19% Asian, and 0.14% from two or more races. 0.19% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 838 households out of which 30.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 71.5% were married couples living together, 4.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 20.5% were non-families. 16.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 2.87.
