William Cousins, Jr. (October 29, 1927 – January 20, 2018) was an American lawyer, judge, and member of the Chicago City Council.
Cousins was born in Swiftown, Mississippi. He moved with his family to Memphis, Tennessee. Cousins and his family then moved to Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from DuSable High School in Chicago, in 1945. Cousins received his bachelor's degree in political science, from University of Illinois in 1945 and his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1951. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was a commissioned a lieutenant colonel. He practiced law in Chicago and served as a Cook County assistant state's attorney. Cousins served on the Chicago City Council from 1967 to 1976. He then served as an Illinois Circuit Court judge from 1976 to 1992. In 1992, he was elected to the Illinois Appellate Court and served until 2002. Cousins was a Republican while he was an assistant state's attorney. He then was a Free Democrat while serving on the Chicago City Council. Cousins died at the University of Chicago Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.
