"Whistle" (Korean: 휘파람) is the debut single of South Korean girl group Black Pink. It was released as a double A-side single with "Boombayah" in titled Square One, on August 8, 2016 by YG Entertainment and distributed by KT Music. The lyrics were written by Teddy Park, Bekuh BOOM, and B.I from iKon, and the music was composed by Teddy, Future Bounce, and Bekuh BOOM. To promote the single, Black Pink performed both "Whistle" and "Boombayah" on SBS's music program Inkigayo on August 14, 2016. The songs were a commercial success, and "Whistle" topped the Gaon Digital Chart. It was also featured in the Pilot episode of the Freeform series "The Bold Type".
"Whistle" was released on August 8, 2016 at 8 p.m. KST as a digital single titled "Square One" along with "Boombayah" through various digital portals in South Korea and on iTunes for the global market.
The music video for "Whistle" was directed by Beomjin J of VM Project Architecture, who also directed "Monster" by Exo and "The 7th Sense" by NCT U. The music video for "Boombayah" was directed by Seo Hyun-seung, who also directed "I Am the Best" by 2NE1 and "Fantastic Baby" by Big Bang. They were released on Black Pink's official YouTube channel on August 8, 2016. The videos went viral soon after they were uploaded, with both surpassing ten million views within five days.
