Genera

The Waeringopteridae are a family of eurypterids, an extinct group of merostomatan arthropods commonly known as "sea scorpions". The family is the only family included in the superfamily Waeringopteroidea, which in turn is classified as part of the suborder Eurypterina.

Waeringopterids are very rare and the family only compromises five species. Four of these are from the ancient continent Laurentia, while one of the Devonian species is from Germany. The clade thus likely originated in Laurentia before spreading to Germany in the Devonian. The fossil record of the group is extremely poor and very little is known of the morphology of the taxa included within it.
