Vulcan's Thumb is a deeply dissected, unstable stratovolcano located directly on the southern ridge of Pyroclastic Peak. It is one of the five main volcanic peaks of the Mount Cayley massif and remains unclimbed because of technical difficulties and its loose rock. Vulcan's Thumb is believed to have last erupted during the period.

The creation of Vulcan's Thumb consist of vent breccia, massive lava flows, and agglutinated breccia of plagioclase, hypersthene, hornblende, biotite, phyric dacite deposited as part of an edifice that raised upon the southwestern edge of the ancestral Mount Cayley.
