The comune (or municipality) extends over an area of 18.02 square kilometres (6.96 sq mi) and in June 2006 had a population of 6,883. Administratively it falls within the Province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola.

Villadossola borders the following communes: Beura-Cardezza, Domodossola, Montescheno, Pallanzeno, Seppiana.
