Veniam is building the Internet of Moving Things, by turning vehicles into WiFi hotspots and building vehicular networks that expand wireless coverage and collect terabytes of actionable data. Veniam’s game-changing solutions are composed by hardware, software and cloud components that deliver managed services to intelligent transportation systems in New York City and Singapore, as well as in the world's largest mesh networks of connected vehicles, which includes taxis, waste collection trucks and the entire public bus fleet in Porto, Portugal, offering free Wi-Fi to more than 500,000 active customers. Veniam can move massive amounts of data from the vehicle to the cloud and back (through 4G/5G techniques, mesh networking and delay tolerant networking). Today it offers an after-market solution that enables highly reliable managed services over networks of moving things (mobile Wi-Fi, mobile ads, and fleet telematics). Veniam is backed by leading venture capital firms, and has offices in the US (Mountain View and New York); Europe (Portugal); and Asia (Singapore).
Veniam was founded by João Barros, its CEO, Roy Russell, former Zipcar CTO, Susana Sargento, a professor at the University of Aveiro, and Robin Chase, former CEO of Zipcar and Buzzcar.
Veniam has been awarded in 2015 by Gartner a "Cool Vendor" in Smart Cities. In 2015 it was also winner of the Building Global Innovators by MIT Portugal and winner of CableLabs innovation. Institutional partners for Veniam include: Universidade do Porto, Universidade de Aveiro, MIT Portugal and UPTEC among others.
