The Urali or Urali Gounder is a Tamil community from the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Members of this sub-caste are found largely in Trichy, Pudukottai, Perambalur, Karur, Dindigul, Salem, Sivagangai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Ariyalur, Tanjavur, Theni and Namakal in Tamil Nadu state. Urali Gounders are also found in Trivandrum and Iduki in Kerala, and Bangalore and some districts of Karnataka states.
This group has further sub-division in their community, known as nadu and karai. Karai is itself a sub-division of nadu, as nadu is determined by area. Each nadu is administered by a periyadhanam of the Urali Gounder community. The nadu with the greatest population are illuppur,A.Puduppatti,manapparai, Kadavankudi,kuttiyapatty, Athiinatar, Paluvanchi, Makili, Vadaseri, and others. Each nadu contains a number of villages. Each village is governed by a nattamai, while the jamin has overarching power over the nattamais.
In Tamil Nadu government, scheduling the Urali Gounder communities into backward classes (BC) in government gazette except Tiruchirapalli, Karur, Perambalur and Pudukottai District (Those are districts are scheduling into MBC/DNC).
Orudaya Gounder and Oorudaya Gounder are sub sections of Urali Gounder community.
