Towner is a city in McHenry County, North Dakota, United States. It is the county seat of McHenry County. The population was 533 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Minot Micropolitan Statistical Area. Towner was founded in 1886.

Despite their similar names, the city of Towner is not in Towner County, North Dakota.

Towner sprang up in 1886 with the arrival of the Great Northern Railway into the area. It was named for rancher O. M. Towner.

Towner is located at 48°20′43″N 100°24′22″W / 48.34528°N 100.40611°W / 48.34528; -100.40611 (48.345208, -100.406036).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.81 square miles (2.10 km2), all of it land.

As of the census of 2010, there were 533 people, 267 households, and 149 families residing in the city. The population density was 658.0 inhabitants per square mile (254.1/km2). There were 337 housing units at an average density of 416.0 per square mile (160.6/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 96.6% White, 1.9% Native American, 0.6% from other races, and 0.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.3% of the population.
