Tank or Tonk (Urdu: ٹانک ṭāṅk; Saraiki: ٹاک) ṭākk), is the capital city of Tank District, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The city is located near Waziristan.
Masoodi language are spoken in tank Pashto is mainly spoken in Tank. Tank also has few people speaking Seraiki which is also spoken in neighboring D.I.Khan district. The vast majority of people are conversant in Pashto language. English is understood by the educated.
It is located at 32º13' N. and 70º32' E and is situated to the north-west of the Indus River and close to the Takht-i-Sulaiman Range.
The city was previously situated inside a fort. Here Sir Henry Durand, lieutenant-governor of the Punjab, was killed in 1870 when passing on an elephant under a gateway.
Tank was the terminus railway station of Tank-Mari Indus Narrow gauge (762 mm or 2 ft 6 in) railway line. This railway line was closed in 1991.
Now a Days the political climate of Tank is changing somewhat as the previous governments of JUIF and PTI are trying to live upto their promises but are failing and a new man from within them Samiullah Khan Burki is trying to change the political atmosphere. Burki is from the ruiling party of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and a selfmade man hailing from Gomal Bazar of district Tank. He is the local leader of the ruiling Party.
