Sunflower Bean is an American rock band from Brooklyn, New York founded in 2013. The band consists of Nick Kivlen (lead guitar and vocals), Jacob Faber (drums), and Julia Cumming (bass and lead vocals). Sunflower Bean have been signed to Fat Possum Records since 2015.

The band started after Nick and Jacob had spent a lot of time practicing in Jacob's basement. The two of them had played together in the band Turnip King before doing their own music. Julia had previously been a member of the band Supercute! along with Rachel Trachtenburg. Nick had known Julia through mutual friends and asked her to join the band. They received wider recognition after playing 8 shows in 4 days during CMJ in 2014, among many other shows around New York.

After the release of the Rock & Roll Heathen EP during the fall of 2014, they released a longer EP on January the 5th, 2015 called Show Me Your Seven Secrets, through their Bandcamp page. The EP, which features the singles "Tame Impala" and "2013", was defined as "astonishingly good" by NME.

During 2015 they toured both the US and the UK on their own and as an opening act for Wolf Alice, DIIV, Best Coast and The Vaccines.

On November 12, 2015 they premiered the single "Wall Watcher" on The Fader, announcing also the cover art, release date and track list of their first album, Human Ceremony. The album was released on February 5, 2016 via Fat Possum Records, streamed one week earlier on Rolling Stone's website. The album was recorded in a studio in eleven days with the help of Matthew Molnar, formerly of the band Friends. Despite this short time spent in the recording studio, Jacob Faber declared to MTV that "the whole process, we actually really took our time with it and spent two or three months writing, demoing, practicing. Just getting everything set before we went into the studio".
