Chronology
Predecessor Ford Taurus (fifth generation)
Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor

The sixth-generation of the Ford Taurus is a full-size car manufactured by Ford. Produced since June 2009, the current version of the Taurus is the longest and heaviest Ford-brand sedan currently sold by the company worldwide. Based upon the Volvo-derived D3 architecture utilized by the 2008-2009 generation, the current version is distinguished by a completely redesigned exterior and interior, featuring elements of Kinetic Design.

The 2010 model year marked significant changes from model precedent. Never marketed as the official replacement for the Ford Crown Victoria and the Mercury Grand Marquis, the sixth-generation Taurus still competes in a price range vacated by both vehicles and full-size sedans larger than the Fusion in size and price. As a result of the phaseout of the Mercury brand, the Taurus was designed without a Mercury Sable counterpart for the first time; the Lincoln MKS full-size sedan shared the D3 platform with the Taurus from 2009 to 2016. After an 11-year hiatus, the Ford Taurus SHO high-performance variant made its return for 2010; the SHO would mark the Ford debut of the twin-turbocharged EcoBoost engine family.

Following the discontinuation of the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor in 2011, a variant of the sixth-generation Taurus was developed as a replacement police car. Deriving its engine and all-wheel drive powertrain from the Taurus SHO, the Police Interceptor Sedan (not badged a Taurus) entered production for 2013.

The Taurus, Taurus SHO, and Police Interceptor Sedan are assembled in Chicago, Illinois at Chicago Assembly (Torrence Ave. Assembly) alongside the Ford Explorer/Ford Police Interceptor Utility.
