Shin Hae-chul (6 May 1968 – 27 October 2014) was a South Korean singer and musician. He was the leader and main vocalist of Korean rock band N.EX.T.

Shin made his unofficial debut in 1988 through MBC's annual Campus Music Festival, where he and his band, Infinite Track (무한궤도) won first place with the song "To You" (그대에게). He was a pioneer of avant-garde rock music in Korea, commonly referred to as Mawang (마왕), or "Demon Lord" by fans and the general public.

Shin Hae-chul was born the youngest of two children in his family, after his older sister. He attended Sogang University, where he studied philosophy until he dropped out due to his music activities.

He introduced the techno music technique in his nation with a huge sensation in 1998, with his album Monocrom. After that, he went to London, England, and New York City, in the United States, to develop his production skills for nearly two years.

He also contributed to the broadcasting factor with hosting several Radio programmes, including 'Music City with Shin Hae Chul' and 'GhostStation with Shin Hae Chul' After supporting and campaigning for the president Roh Moo-hyun in 2002 election, Mr. Shin hosts the popular Ghost Nation on MBC, a late-night radio program since 2003. His fans call him "Mawang" (마왕 'the Demon Lord').

On 16 September 2007, Shin ended his popular late-night radio program, "The Ghost Nation". But he also announced that the broadcasting will be continuously served through the web, but no more broadcasting through MBC.

Shin's many musical projects include N.EX.T(means 'New EXpermintal Team'), No Dance, Monocrom, and Wittgenstein. Shin's music serves up nearly every style conceivable. He was also involved with composing the soundtrack to the Korean release of Guilty Gear X2.

Shin Hae-chul disbanded N.EX.T. after their 4th studio album, Lazenca: A Space Rock Opera, citing he has achieved everything he can with a band. He said if he involved himself in another band, he would drop his surname and change his name. He was sometimes cited as "Crom" in projects such as Monocrom, Wittgenstein, and with the current N.EX.T.
